  1. Let's stop that kind of shit on Voices From The Hellmouth · · Score: 1

Ok, I am not a nerd, I have never been one and should even add that I have been cruel to some. Yeah I read slashdot, am I weirdo then?
Nope, I loved school, I loved the way I laughed at some people. There always was someone to laugh at. Of course later, you do understand that it was easy to do so. Those people were nerds, socially disfunctional folks, who are usually smart but never the smartest. I am sorry, but Einstein or Poincare, or any other real big shot scientists were never nerds.

I however came to the understanding that it was cruel to do that, to make fun of them or of some nerdish teachers who couldn't get their students to respect them!

But hey, it's life! Killing for that means only ONE THING. You are sick!

Yes, society is sometimes stupid, cruel, or just plain clueless! Most of us were that too when we were kids, nerds included!

Any solution. Well, I don't know. But I just keep wondering how come no student will ever kill anyone in a lot of other countries. I mean look at France, or Italy or Third World countries! I am not saying they don't have horrors of their own.

But anyone asked why, here in the US, people tend to go shoot down other people then commit suicide?

I think part of the answer is the availability of guns. Another part is the sickening politically correct climate we live in. Hell, those kids should have seriously been shaken up by their parents, and talked too even more seriously a long time ago! I am not talking about stupid pseudo-rational and useless counselling, I am talking about real parental care! Care here is of course love but also listening, punishing, rewarding, hitting, hugging, talking...

I think, a lot of today's parents aren't doing their job. Why? I don't know!

I know my parents were sometimes tough with me, sometimes nice, sometimes caring, sometimes hateful. But in truth, they were always here! And for that I am more than thankful!

Be there for your kids, REALLY there! And get those guns out of this country. And for the folks who want to hunt and to be real men! BE REAL MEN, and HUNT those animals you hunt with a hunting knife, or your bare hands like REAL MEN used to do in the past! I'd love to see that, instead of watching impotent males hiding and waiting for a little deer to pop up, to fill its head with bullets from a safe distant!

  2. The ONLY TRUTH about computers and OSes on Linux is a waste of time? · · Score: 1

The only truth out there is that most home based computers are used for the following:

-Sex downloads and sex image manipulation.
    -Game playing.
-Some SOHO stuff, where all you need is an app like StarOffice. I have already started showing it and people are just starting to consider using it on their platform.
-Let your kids play stupid pseudo-educative stuff.
-"Be cool" and have the latest computer even if you don't use it.

I won't talk about sex. It is obvious that it is the biggest industry of the net!

Games follow: They sell hardware. You wouldn't have had dual Voodoo SLI or TNT or ATI FURY or even MMX and now 3Dnow and MMX2 and soon 3DnowII without them!

If you have games, and your OS is better than Windows, people will switch to it. And then parents or even adult players will go buy Corel or StarOffice or Applix for Linux, if they use the machine for any work at all!

    PERIOD.

Now for the guy, he doesn't seem to understand a lot, BUT he seems to need some publicity. Everyone of us tries hard to keep his/her job. So I guess he is doing the same.

    Good luck to him!

Tell me of one major software developer that does this!

NO ONE! Except some very small shareware programmers who hope to get a job!

People like to use nice developing environments, but no one actually uses ACTIVE X or COM for any kind of development! No one that matters that is.

People need syntax highlights and debuggers! Period.

Let me tell you why no real software developer will use any visual product to code!

Most big programs require libraries (you should know) that are not necessarily implemented correctly in those environments! Even MS one!

So, most big companies end up writing their own header files even for basic operations so that all their code can work on Win95/98 and NT4.0

Most big software developers make software for for multiple platforms, so they also need to write everything from scratch again even some very simple header files!

So please don't give me no crap about Borland etc... They have nice syntax highlight and debuggers. If you really develop anything serious, you certainly don't use any of their non-standard "cookies". Which means, you could use Xemacs with ddd, or just Cygnus stuff if you really need nice interfaces!

Ok, yes first releases were buggy I was said. Well, I waited until they had 'official' redhat rpms. (That's the distro I am using and happy with!)

Anyway, this thing is awesome. I like gdm, enlightenment choice, but will get any decent windowmaker rpm that works with gnome!

Still, there are things that don't work like misplaced windows on the pager or like when it sends you to the wrong part of desktop when clicking on an app that is already there! Paging is not that solid yet! Is it gnome's fault or enlightenment's one, that nukes unused desktops out of memory from time to time?

Anywway, these are details. I haven't had a "general protection fault", nor did I have to hard reset my machine.

Plus, this thing is far superior to Windows95/98 GUI, and unix's CDE.

Now for KDE, it's hard to tell. I still like gnome better but it's a matter of taste (NOT LIC.). I also noted it ate less memory than KDE or CDE!

Great job, gnome people, and rhlabs people and whoever worked on this.
