I am 28. I drive more than I did 10 years ago but only because I live further from friends/family/job. The answer is the price of gas and the cost of maintaining a car in general. If you want to be able to afford a car you have to buy used and that usually means repair and upkeep. Tires are expensive. You have to register it. Those sorts of things.
Where I live we are finally getting some decent public transportation and I envy kids now. Fuck owning a car they are a pain in the ass. Apart from the occasional road trip I would love to not have to worry about a car.
