I think there is a private place in hell reserved for people who say "IMHO".

Any other recommendations for os review sites?

What if the default security level is to have all ports blocked or not allow a eth interface to start? I might want change the default then....

I don't get why all the different distos would require different binaries for games. Can someone explain?

Surely if the required libs are present an i386 complied binary should work on any i386 compiled distro?

For example, why does a Fedora RPM package not always work on a Mandrake10 box?

  5. Gobalization - US style on Russian Music Site Offering Legal Songs By The MB · · Score: 1

Another classic example of Globalization. US product is exported to Russia where its sold at a price much lower than in the US. Hence it is reimported back into the US by its own citizens.

The corporations cant have it both ways... either Globalization is good and we all pay less... or Globalization is bad and product should be bought by the same people producing it (ie same country).

I'm sure the US government will impose import tariffs on these bytes.

While you got moderated as a troll, but I actually agree with you. Cringley is right.

The OSS community needs to worry less about implementation MS clones and look more at innovation. For example PHP - it's a great at what it does and has had a major impact on the web.

An example that hasn't taken off yet, but is relevant to this article, is "thinlets" (www.thinlet.com). I saw this project and thought... Wow this could really mean rich GUI apps deployed by the web....

I think you have just discovered the solution to all copyright and patent issues....

You die and your patents and copyrights die... not in 75 years, but right now. You kids or the corporation you work for can make as much money out of them as they can, but only while you are alive.

Novels, inventions, music, art all becomes public domain the day you die.

    If your sig is:

It sums up your point perfectly.

AI is a long forgotten art. And MMORPG's are the way the game companies can forget AI altogether.... they just get us gamers to do/be it!!??

  10. The REAL reason on McNealy Answers: No Open Source Java · · Score: 1

The real reason Sun isnt open sourcing java is because C# isnt open source and yet its still gaining ground.

You know why that is? The IDE - Visual Studio.NET. All the useless VB6 developers lap it up like kittens. What has Sun got? NetBeans?

And Sun knows it too. Java Studio Creator is their next gambit, not opening the java source under the GPL.

Have you actually tried the new yahoo?

It seems to return results different to Google, but they still seem relevant...

The slashdot crowd seems to of latched on to Google as the god of search engines and is ignoring the prossibility that a new search engine might actually improve on it....

  13. Leadership on UserLinux May Go Without KDE · · Score: 0, Troll

Bruce Perens has displayed excellent leadership here. Which is what many open source projects lack.

I just dont understand why various comments try to defend KDE. QT has at its core a model that is not open. If you can accept this then why arn't you using OSX or Windows?

The mailing list had a great discusion amongst some highly knowledgeable people on this topic and then the leader made "the right choice". It makes me thing that UserLinux may really be the desktop linux distribution it has set out to be.

I dont why we feel we can comment at all really. But then I dont know why Im reading the comments either!... or why I'm making this post!!.... oooohhhh head .... exploding.....
