When it's a life or death situation the goal is to keep the patient alive. No doctors want a patient to die on their watch; it doesn't look good. Also, if you did research you'd know a person can only be held in a suspended state for a few hours.
I have to point out the fact that the human population really doesn't need more medical breakthroughs that continue to lower the death toll.
