  1. Palm access? on Net Access on an American Road Trip? · · Score: 1

It won't do everything but maybe a Palm VII would work out or a Motorola pager.

  2. A well done solution on CERT Advisory On Malicious HTML Tags · · Score: 2

Perfecto Technologies has a really good solution to this problem with their App Sheild. It checks forms on the way out and then checks the data coming back to make sure it fits what it expected. I've seen this done as a home grown solution at a Euro telco and it seems to work very well.

  3. Transmeta buzz on UPDATED: Transmeta's Crusoe Unveiled · · Score: 1

It would be interesting if someone, a reporter or /. hack, were to put together an overview of the various rumors that have floated around since Transmeta started up in '95.

Since they aren't making Fawlty Towers anymore perhaps a dubbing job could be in order here... Similar to the Tie-Tanic stuff...

What if Frasier and Lilith back in the Cheers days had taken a trip to England and stayed in Fawlty Towers?

  5. Wher's the release? on Bungie Releases Marathon 2 Under GPL · · Score: 1

I've looked all over the Bungie site for the Press Release. Does anyone know where it is or is this another unchecked story? I'm thinking some joker found the source code on the Bungie site and started a rumor that it is freely available. So where is the PR?

    Thanks!

  7. Re:Southern Bell != Southwestern Bell on Microsoft == Monopoly says Judge · · Score: 1
To the best of my knowledge the situation at least as far as what has happened in the past two years is this:
    • Bell Atlantic (RBOC) bought NYNEX (RBOC)
    • BellSouth (RBOC) hasn't bought anything
    • SBC - Southwestern Bell (RBOC) has bought PacBell (RBOC) and Ameritech (RBOC)
    • US West (RBOC) will merge into non-RBOC Qwest if it is approved next year.
And thus of the seven original RBOCs (Regional Bell Operating Companies) we are left with four entities but the huge deregulations that have occured since AT&T was taken apart means that we still have much more competition than even when the seven entities existed.

  9. Re:Yet one more reason... on Amazon.com Receives Patent for 1-Click Shopping · · Score: 1

Actually Amazon has a pretty good scheme going for keeping people from being able to order with someone else's card. Any time you want to add another shipping address you have to enter a credit card. This means that each shipping address is associated with a credit card that was explicitly entered when the address was added. How did these people retrieve what they'd ordered without commiting mail fraud and camping out next to this guy's mailbox?

  10. Re:Its legally a supercomputer.... on Apple announces the G4 · · Score: 1

According to the local press here in Israel we are one of the countries to which the G4 cannot be shipped to. This stems from the fact that we are not signed on the Nuclear Antiproliferation Treaty (whatever its official name is) What I don't understand is that they are saying that in a few months this restriction should be lifted. AFAIK Israel isn't signing the treaty so does this mean they'll have to tone down the chip?
