  1. Whats wrong with the military? on U.S. Army Testing Jini · · Score: 1

I think that its sick when snot nosed punks such as you think that military service is a waste of time. You are just as bad as those idiots who protested against the Vietnam War. Military service is one of the single most important things a person could do during his life. We have the benefit of living in such a free and safe country because of all the brave men that have served and are serving in the military. I have tried to join both the Marines and Navy, but alass I cannot because of eczema, a form of skin disorder. But since I cannot join I am not going to turn around and say that military service in not worth while just because I am not part of it. While military service is not for everyone, every member of our Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, and Coast Guard deserve every American's respect. We are the greatest nation since Rome, and they have made us that way.

  2. Java sucks on U.S. Army Testing Jini · · Score: 1

Sorry about my obscene language. I do truly have a large vocabulary, but I feel that this description truly shows what I think about Java. Java may be the future of web scripts, but for real applications it cannot hold a candle to compiled languages such as C++. C++ is the future. While it may not still be called C++ in a few years, it will be another language that is the same thing only with more features. I would rather go back to using Pascal or even Cobol and Fortran than be stuck using Java or Perl. While I think languages such as Lisp may become more prominent once genetic algorithms are used more, I dont think Java will ever be a widely used language in the future. At least I sure hope not.

  3. Playstation the best? on Playstation 2 Outperforms Everything? · · Score: 1

How could you possibly believe that the playstation is the best console? Playstation cannot hold a candle to the Nintendo 64. The performance difference on both is negligable. The playstation may have more games, but they mostly are just clones of eachother. On the other hand, the Nintendo has FOUR CONTROLLERS, allowing for far much more multiplayer fun. The N64 also doesnt waste so much time on those crapy role-playing games and instead pumps out such quality games as Goldeneye and (dont laugh) Super Smash Brothers. And lastly the N64 doesnt suffer from those annoying loading waits. While the playstation may be better for some nerdy kid with no friends who finds pride in beating a stupid computer program in a 1 player game, the Nintendo blows it away in every other category.

While I dont exactly believe in Doomsday predictions, but in two of Nostradamus' quatrains he forsees both of these astronomical effects. In one (quatrain 72) he says that in July 1999 a great object will fall from the sky. While he may be 1 month off, in another passage (quatrain 51) he tells of a great meteor that is hiding behind a solar eclipse will fall to the ground at the end of the millenium (he doesnt specify which millenium). Could this all be coincidence?

  7. What?!? on NASA Faces Major Budget Cuts · · Score: 1

How can you even think that social security is more important than a mission to Mars. A manned mission to mars will be the most important accomplishment that mankind has ever done, and you are comparing that to social security?

  8. Mass extinction on Cloning of extinct Huia bird approved · · Score: 1

What has man done in the form of causing extinctions that nature hasnt already done. Extinctions happened all the time before we were here, we just sped up to process. Three cheers for efficient humans. The first ever mass extinction was when over 90% of all carbon dioxide breathing organisms died because of too much oxygen in the atmosphere. I see this reversing soon, so the hundreds of species we have killed would have died anyway.

  9. Man vs Nature (the path to victory) on Cloning of extinct Huia bird approved · · Score: 1

People who believe in protecting our planet and our ecosystems forget that we spit in nature's face every day. Ever since we learned to farm, we Humans have found loopholes in nature. Since nature has been here for billions of years, the fact that we have almost reached nature's raw power (only things such as earthquakes and hurricanes are beyond our control) in a few hundred thousand years of evolution shows how powerful we are. Nature's well being really shouldnt be a consideration for us as long as we are sure that humankind will survive. In a few hundred years Earth will probably only be a place kids read about in their history books anyway. The real question here isnt whether this is morally right, but is it worth our resources to learn a little more about genetics. I think it is, and only that can really be argued.

  10. TV is still usefull. (at least with a VCR) on Less Television in Online Homes · · Score: 1

I still have the TV on for a good amount of the day, but it rarely has my full attention. I usually am on the computer and the TV is on in the backround. I usually have it on The Discovery/TLC/A&E/History Channels, along with ZDTV. I also use it to watch movies, since the selection for DVD is still very limited. My N64 is also on it, and since I have friends over almost every day I play alot of Goldeneye and Smash Brothers. While it isnt as intellectually stimulating as programming on my computer, what is more fun than watching an episode of The Simpsons, seeing Monty Python's The Holy Grail, or uppercutting Donkey Kong with Yoshi?

I didnt mean that linux users alone pirate software. I realize that my message made it sound like pirating was a linux only problem, but that was not my intention.

  12. It said DIRECT X! on Review:Real-Time Strategy Game Programming · · Score: 0

I have seen so many replys complaining about how DirectX was used so intently in this book. If you wanted to read a book on linux programming, buy a book on linux programming. Game programming will not have a big market in linux for some time. A few companies such as Loki will exist fine for a while, but the market will dry up soon. With the excessive pirating and low number of users, linux games will never sell as much as windows games. That is why anyone serious about making money writing games will still be writing for windows for many years to come. And even though linux is a great operating system, its APIs do not yet match DirectX in ability or documentation. Its sad and it breaks my heart, but it is true.
