I live in Salt Lake City, Utah and a variation of this happened when I was in high school.
There were about 5 of us computer geeks that were incharge of all the schools computers as an 31337 class. You could not sign up for this class, you had to be recruited. As part of our responsibilties we created the schools web server and web page. We fixed misc problems with teachers computers and maintained the network. It was the best experience ever. I would NOT be where I am now if it wasn't for this experience. It also got me out of class. (When a teachers computer would go crazy I would get asked to leave whatever class I was in, to go fix the computer). FYI - Our web server was Linux!!
I can't remember who makes it, but when I was at comdex (I spent most of the time at the Slashdot booth) there was a company who had them. So I know they are out there somewhere. If anyone else saw them let me know what company, because I would buy one in a second.
Even though it is not currently possible (if it is let me know) I thought that it was a great episode. I had seen every episode and started to get bored with it, then I saw the commercial for this episode and I was hooked into watching (The chick in the skimpy leather did it for me). I thought it was a great episode, lame in a few parts but over all a good episode. I have to say that I thought the ending was lame.
Come on you guys! Everyone is saying Slashdot != Freshmeat. We know Slashdot isn't Freshmeat, but Slashdot is "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters." and to Nerds, and Geeks (That like Linux)(Which any real geek would) see a new kernel as 'Stuff that matters'. So if you don't like to see that there is a new kernel go into your preferences and turn off linux stories. If you want linux stories but not kernel, then ask Rob to add a new button for kernel news so you can turn that off. I don't care what you do as long as you stop crying!
Well it is great that the new unstable version came out, but I am still waiting for the wonderful 2.4 kernel. Is it just me or does the release date keep getting moved back. Does anyone know when we can expect 2.4? I would like to see it soon.
I would but the only thing is, is that I am just a normal geek using Linux, no one would listen to what I would have to say. That is why I mentioned two well known, and respected people that everyone would listen too.
I have to say that I agree with this statement. It is a pain in the butt to remember all the different hot keys. In one editor (nedit) it is Ctrl-S, while in Code Crusader it is Alt-S. My brain is fried as it is! So lets not standardize the GUI, but lets have Linus (or CmdrTaco) set some standards for the UI.
Even though this is offtopic, I would ask the moderators to look at my reason for this post. Who ever posted those comments needs first off to get a life. Don't ruin./ for the rest of us. It may even be a good idea to get rid of being able to post anonymously. Lets not have to resort to that, and just have everyone grow up. Slashdot is a site for nerds, not for little pervs who think it is funny to post comments about Portman with hot grits down her pants. So come on people, lets move./ back to what it was started for, News for Nerds.
This would be fun to have around Halloween. You could put it in your front yard, and use it to scare all the little kids. Because then they would drop their candy, and go off screaming, and you would get candy without knocking on doors! I need one.
I want to get Lego Mindstorms, but over a $100 for Legos just doesn't seem right to me. Can anyone (Who owns them) tell me if they are worth $100? What can you do with them? If they would go down in price I would buy them right now. I fell anyone that spends over $100 for legos, needs to check their priorities. Sure they are neat but you could get stuf for your computerwith that money. For that much money you could get more RAM, a burner, speakers, zip drive...etc..
This could be good in that it may stop more high-jacks, but I don't really like the thought of someone I don't know looking at my naked body. I mean what is some sick pervert gets that job, so he can get his jollies of our naked body scans. I don't think it's necessary. There are better ways of checking for weapons.
I feel that if a city want's to attract geeks they need to have a good Internet connection. I live in Sandy, Ut. (Salt Lake County) and we can't even get DSL. So we are stuck on dialup (unless you want to fork out the cash for a T1 too your house). If the city has a good Net connection, and high paying tech jobs the geeks will come.
This is nice, but the problem is that the Web is moving faster than anyone can keep up. So you can never have a total history. We can only see and remember the biggest things that happen.
I have a web server that is a PII 233 128 Meg RAM machine running Mandrake Linux 6.0 with kernel 2.2.9. The web site is delivered via Php3 and MySQL and Apache 1.3.6. Currently the server has been running for 121 days! To see for your self goto http://www.jhs.jordan.k12.ut.us/about.php here.
I fell that the Internet should not be allowed to be patented in anyway! If you are making a new kind of product then sure patent it. But in the way of the Internet copyrights should only be allowed.

What about AT&T Digital Cabel? Does someone know how to hack it to get all the channels?
Debian IS Linux
SUSE IS Linux
Slackware IS Linux
Even 'My first Linux' (Caldera) IS Linux.
This story should have been entiled
'Linux is not Redhat', because Redhat IS Linux.

> Maybe it's because Linux can't handle the load on their servers!
Is that why Windows (All of them) has the worst multitasking of any OS?
> I bet I could do better running Apache on DOS!!!
Well if you run Windows 95, 98 then you are running DOS, it just has a clown suit on!
I just have one question, are you Drunk or just stupid?
Would be "When is the Linux version coming out?"

What is Humpday?
If it's anything like Festivus I will love it.
So are there any fun activities that go along with Humpday?
MORE PRESENTS!
(Or is Humpday when we get out our shrines of CmdrTaco and pay homage)

In the movie Andy died, then the next scene Andy is up on stage. How does that work?
Did I miss something?

Down with Internet Taxes!
Most of the things listed are very expensive.
To go on the cheaper side of things I say RAM RAM and more RAM!
