  1. Funny... on Intel Slashes Prices On Mobile Chips · · Score: 1

There are absolutely no comments whatsoever about the Crusoe in the Infoworld article.

    Why is that?

This story seems to take Intel's side a little too much. Don't tell them about the *cheaper* alternative that uses less power and emits less heat than AMD and Intel differentiated. :)

    Just wondering...

I have pondered apon those very same questions since I can remember. I have a simple theory that could explain consciousness and the sense of being.

My theory is that the more complex and dynamic you make a environment, at some critical point that thing will start becoming a consciousness. Just the way some schools of fish individually can't even get food, but the entire school acts as one being. Symbiosis on a grand scale.

Maybe God (please don't kill me here) is a enourmously complex dynamic energy system that has a consciousness and the ability to tend itself into certian directions, creating galaxies, stars, planets, and ultimately life. (After all, everything is just energy)

We are just a very dynamic and very complex system of neurons, a system with enough parameters to be conscious of ourselves.

Computers should then be able to have a consciousness, but the technology to build such a level of complexity is still a far way off.

and Men In Black had the thing were our galaxy is inside another one, etc.

Then again... i could be entirely wrong :-)

Ok.. i've tried l3enc, i've tried bladeenc, but I finally settled on Xing's Audio Catalyst... this is why...
    • Supports variable bitrate, which basically means it encodes silence better than those heretic eurotech parts...
    • It is fast. bladeenc encoded mp3's about 0.25 times real speed, while Audio Catalyst encodes faster than real time!!! (prob. about 1.2X.. it depends) (That's on my P166MMX)
    • Very high quality encoder. Apparently encodes up to 20KHz...
    • Rips your CD's for you.. :)
The drawbacks are that it runs in windows, and has to be registered or something... Well.. i'm trying to get it to work under wine, and as for the registration thing.. there is a crack somewhere... :P

My gf is studying political science, and she showed me an interesting piece the other day. The writer proposed how democracy will change as technology changes, into technocracy, where the world will be run by the technical people, because of the technology changing so rapidly that politicians won't be able to have the knowhow to effectively govern a country. They will be dependant on the technical community on everything, and the politicians will be forced to show the public that they really did invent the internet.. :P

(using the bad example of Al Gore..)

Well.. it's only a theory, but I will vote for Rob ;)
