  1. Re:Two simple (allbeit long-term) steps on "Usenet Death Penalty" against AOL · · Score: 1

AOL doesn't configure a Newsreader because it has one built in. I can't remember the keyword (News maybe or Usenet) since it has been years since I last used AOL, but it does have a newsreader.

    > Haven't the Copyrights for Old Games Expired? > U.S. copyright laws state that copyrights owned > by corporations are valid for 75 years from the > date of first publication. Because video games > have been around for less than three decades, > the copyrights of all video games will not > expire for many decades to come. 75 YEARS?? Books written by individuals only get 50 after the death of the last surviving writer! Anyway, I think we should E-MAIL, Mail, and Petition congress until they ACKNOWLEDGE that Video Games are a more Tidal medium and because they change so much and so fast, this should be shortened to say 5 years for Video Games. Computer Games may also be placed under this, but we may want to increase the number for Computer Games since you can still play really old games like Maniac Mansion without having an old computer.

  3. Re:This is the stupidest thing Katz has ever said! on Infinite Space · · Score: 1

I agree on some points, the web can't be infinite with a finite number of IP Addresses and a finite (though very large) number of possible domain name combinations (esp. in already saturated TLDs like .COM and .ORG). The Internet Addressing standards were not built to be expandable, and were only built to be LARGE enough for their purposes and so, I think that a new network (with backwards IP support for old games (similar to the way The Zone allows the playing of LAN games over the net)) is almost manditory this late in the game without a re-writing of almost every peice of software on the net and off of it. If we are going to rebuild Internet "civilization" as we know it we should start on the right foot and start from scratch. Also, I understand that this is going to be a slow process (mostly, Winsock (and other standards) programs may be able to convert the easiest), but we must get rid of older code so that the Internet will not just last us another 30 years, or even a hundred, but for the rest of Human CIVILIZATION!

  4. REAL WHOIS... on Whois information copyrighted · · Score: 4

Actually, NSI has hidden the "real" whois, fancy free at http://www.nsiregistry.com which is basically the old WHOIS we got at http://www.internic.net and NSIregistry does not have that copyright notice. Example: WHOIS Slashdot.Org

  5. Re:'Set it for stun' on Phasers, Tasers and Stun Guns, oh my! · · Score: 1

I disagree. I think 'A Long Long Time ago in a Galazy Far Far away...' refers to the rumored "Last Chapter" (7, 8, 9) and how that the movies are really just peices of a "Book" (similar to how Tolkien's Intros refer to the Red Book of Westmarch) and I think that the whole Star Wars universe is narrated by someone even further into the future than the movies. Its sad that rumor has it that the "Last Chapter" may not be produced...

I would like to see the Mac OS GUI take the place of Windows on the PC... Its a nicer OS, has had several advantages over the years. The only reason I don't buy a Mac is that the Hardware has always been REALLY bad. That iMac mouse DOESN'T work, and I don't want a Laptop sized keyboard when I am working on a desktop with room to spread out.

Hope to see a good DOS/Windows port for better multi-platform game/program coding! Also hope Delorie's paying attention! DJGGP with the EGCS compiler will be something to look for on the Wintel side of things.
