I think it's interesting that you didn't mention Mojolicious, which has your dependency problem from Dancer sorted, and is also a quite modern rethinking of HTTP on Perl. None of the old cruft from the 90s.
I think you are wrong there. Sebastian actually cares about the web. http://mojolicio.us/ was designed by the author of the framework himself, and as you can see it's not your typical Perl project home page. He even drew all the artwork.
I recommend using perlbrew (http://perlbrew.pl) to install the latest version of perl in your home directory. Then you can just drop the sudo. You *could* also just install this thing using the normal cpan shell that ships with perl, cpanmin.us is just a convenience to make things easier.
With regards to the https - You might notice that http://cpanmin.us redirect to - https://raw.github.com/miyagawa/cpanminus/master/cpanm
But what's your point? When using native bindings to C libraries, they act just like other perl modules. It's the same reason we don't use native perl database drivers as well. I don't see how using C bindings in modules is an argument against using the language. Perl was written in C as well, after all.
Dude. That's just not true. Class::DBI lets you set up your application just as easily as Active Record. Try looking at some Maypole application examples to get a clue.
You might want to take a look at Maypole (http://maypole.perl.org/).
From the blurb: Maypole is a Perl framework for MVC-oriented web applications, similar to Jakarta's Struts. Maypole is designed to minimize coding requirements for creating simple web interfaces to databases, while remaining flexible enough to support enterprise web applications.
(Note that I'm not fully objective as I'm one of the developers working on Maypole;-)
heh, well.. they *do* supply rpms, and I've never had any problems compiling xmms.. but I guess some it's considered hard for some people.. come over to #xmms on efnet and we'll help you:) The developers hang there as well, and they are rather friendly
I mean, xmms is pretty much the best audio tool on the linux platform, and we don't get to choose it? The only mp3 player I noticed is mpg123. Is this because the lj guys doesn't know better, or is it a secret plot to destroy peter, olle and the rest of the swedish mafia?:)

It's very pretty. Look on the homepage to see an example.

What's so cool about a 4 digit id?
