What, if anything, should those of us with smartphones , laptops etc do when we're out in public? Have air-gap hackings become at all common, yet?

It's even possible to manage your websites on a smartphone, but I don't know if more knowledgeable people would recommend that or not.
I pay for a virgin mobile hotspot (no contract) and I only buy regular cell phone service on occasion... MagicJack "works" but I hear so many complaints from the people I call that "you're breaking up", poor sound quality etc.
What if climate change is caused by God, and he's punishing humanity for not doing well enough?
