Actually, (IIRC) the money for the building came from Gates himself via the William Gates Foundation rather than from Microsoft, which kinda makes naming it after him more (though not entirely) forgivable. Also MS are not sharing the building with the CUCL as was orginally planned as they decided they wanted larger premises.
Amazing how simple a bot can be to cause a response from a normally "clued" individual... and how agressive they can get when humiliated in such a fashion...

The only problems arise when simple bots start talking to each other - trigger phrases clash etc. This rapidly gets you flood kicked off of the server...
I thought that last paragraph was an interesting problem, regarding acquiring sysadmin experience. Does running you own 24x7 server-type box (whatever OS) whilst at univeristy count? If not, the how DO you get experience without putting someone elses computer/company/future at risk (to be melodramatic)? Is it feasable for large companies to set up trainee sysadmin network "sandpits" for them to cut their teeth on, without being able to damage the integrity of the main network?
Surely the linux binaries will spring up on the various FPS gaming mirror sites, in the same way as the various QW/Q2 binaries have... How will they be able to count the downloads from these sources? I'm not saying it's impossible, but will probably be more trouble than the worth of it for GT, a company that doesn't seem overly keen on stressing Linux support.
Surely it can't be made truely open source, even if M$ tried to, for practical reasons. The "viral" nature of the GPL and other similar licenses would mean that code changes in the linux version couldn't be fed back into the (main) win32 IE as that would force win32 IE to adopt an open source license (unless I'm misinterpreting the GPL). Microsoft would, understandably, be unwilling to do this, and hence the two version's of IE would become separate entities- No bad thing IMHO, but unlikely to be welcomed by a company such as Microsoft, for both profit-making and support reasons.
The thing that worries me is if something like this is passed in the UK, where we don't get free phonecalls. Does it mean that we need to pay the 5p minimum call charge just to use some software we've payed for?

One would have thought that the transmeta page announcing itself as Y2K complient would have made slashdot... Did I miss it?
