Us canadian folks, ey!, are the same way, ey. Seems those "down under", and those of us up above, both prefer the life+50 rule, which is OK by me... I mean, waiting 70 years to read a goddamn book for free?! WTF?! Ey!
I've compiled a (growing) list of free book sites here:
http://www.nosleep.ca/links/view_group.php?id=45
Gutenberg (which has been mentioned) is in there, as well as a few others. I also find it useful, although potentially illegal for you Americans, to search the australian, or canadian archives, as both have a shorter copywright timeline (author's life + 50 years).
Yeah, the Sony 5" LCD kicks ass. I just got mine this weekend, and I can't stop playing my PSOne now! I mean, it fits on my desk, and takes up hardly any space!!! Watching movies with the mini-jack adapter is my next goal, even though the movies will be tiny, they should still be watchable.
This is the case that never ends It goes on and on my friend Some people said Microsoft did it not knowing what it was And they'll go on doing it just because
Ok... I'm willing to take an "Off-Topic" hit for this, but here goes:
I love it how american people can refer to something that is not american in such a general state. The "Canada-France-Hawaii" telescope?!! Well, FYI, Canada is composed of 10 provinces and 3 territories (or 11 prov's and 2 terr's... depending on the status of Nunavut). France, whom I'm not overly familiar with, must at least have a couple provinces, musnt it? So, to all you proud americans out there, why don't you do a bit of research on the countries you're posting about, before you just generalize!
It's about damned time! Now I can finally stop signing my cheques, or using PINs, or anything... just wave my hand over the register, and money is taken out of my account... Finally!

Why not subscontract the development work, and then release the source as GPL. I'm sure there'd be at least a few people that would add patches etc to it!
"Schneier is being generous - real world results show that facial recognition systems are a lot less than 99.99% accurate even under laboratory conditions"
The point of the article, was for Scheier TO BE GENEROUS. At first glance... you think 99.99% is so close to 100% that it's almost perfect. But when Schneier factors in the number of people that travel every day... 10 000 false terrorists (or wolves), is a lot.
Now... in a real-world situation... if the TRUE results of face recognition where even 1% lower than Schneier's ideal situation... then the inconvience would compound itself that much more!
In short... the Terrorist Face Recognition System 5000, is useless.
"If you host Web sites, we suggest that you use one IP per domain so that if spam occurs for one Web site, we don't have to blackhole you or your other customers to block access to the spamming site."
But then:

read the slashdot story here)
"The below payment options are used to PROTECT you the customer. These are FDIC insured banks and will protect you against any type of fraud. You must register with one of them to place your order. We do not receive any credit card information, this information is kept secure with our payment processors. If you are not satisfied with the product for any reason you will have the product security from these Financial Institutions."
The Company has a point... if you don't get the product, or you're not happy with it.. you CAN get your money back!
If you invest half a day (I'm going to assume an 8 hour work day, so 4 hours) into MS... you could EASILY setup the above mentioned software. installing linux (redhat 7.0) is a snap, and from there... there's files that come with each package named either "INSTALL" or "README" and typically they contain all the info required to install the software... or at least they send you to the right place.
Go to slackware.com and read through their book. The WHOLE installation manual is online... and you can probably print it off easily enough. The Slackware book covers quite a bit of material... and is probably one of the greatest features of Slackware (aside from everything else slackware!:).
Of course, the book covers slackware specific things... but you can easily adapt the information to DistroX.
Becareful when you buy a thinkpad. The thinkpad that IBM makes are great... but the whole I-series of thinkpads suck! They outsource them to Acer, and Acer does a very poor job of putting them together. The software on them even has Acer logos all over... now that's bad outsourcing!
They sure look like thinkpads tho.:)
For me... Dell is the way to go for laptops... there's very little that is proprietary about the hardware.. and they are VERY solid.. the price is also decent. My dell rocks.:) And it took linux with no problems.
OK. We're all nerds here, and this is what we need: I Glasses.
Sure.. the IGlasses will lead to EYE glasses, but that's not the point. The point is that EVERYTHING will be up close and personal. Just imaging IRC with these puppies!
Very interesting.
1) I'm in Canada, and thusly I can live with the life+50 rule.
2) So, Mickey Mouse and Winnie The Pooh are no longer copyright protected in Canada? Neat!
3) You americans are messed up. Keep up the good work Yerricde!

PSOne LCD: http://www.us.playstation.com/hardware/displays/S
Does anybody know if the PSOne LCD connects to the PS2? Obviously I can get the PS2 display to show on the LCD, but are the screws compatible??
Does this make anyone else think of Z for Zacharia?!

Here's lame:
Maps says this:
But then, MAPS also advises Web providers:
"If you host Web sites, we suggest that you use one IP per domain so that if spam occurs for one Web site, we don't have to blackhole you or your other customers to block access to the spamming site."
But then:
"ARIN (the guys who hand out IP addresses) has a policy change where they will no longer allocate IP addresses for IP-based virtual hosting" ( read the slashdot story here)
Who's going to win? ARIN? or MAPS?
My vote is on MAPS!

These ultimately remind me of the movie Hackers.
