    I'm reading a lot of "You can't know everything. I've been at this X years and I've never had to learn the particulars of how to encrypt anything! I'd learn it if I had to." in these comments.

    Any application that deals with data should be built with an understanding of when and how to use cryptography to protect sensitive information. They aren't, but they really ought to be, and I wouldn't hire anyone to work with me if they couldn't give me a high-level overview of the basic concepts of PKE. I'm with you on that, OP.

    But in answer to the original question, I kind of have to agree with the more cynical posters. Good help is hard to find. I say this as someone who is trying to hire talented software engineers in LA (seriously, if you're awesome, email matt at gem.co) and has been disappointed.
