Who didn't get the Aha of recognition the first time they saw a XXXX For Dummies book. This is because they played on the already existing use of such an english language expression as 'Hey, that's for dummies!'.
Ok, then it seems fine to trademark that for a book on computers or IT but can they really appropriate the use of it in language? Did I just violate their trademark just then?
I would suggest searching (perhaps in newspaper archives) for examples that predate their trademark. Perhaps use in headline would be a very strong argument.
So many people have posted intelligent stuff here that I couldn't read it all (yet). Apologies then if this has been said before but I just want to put this comment in here for the record.
Somtimes plans crash and kill their pasengers. Sometimes people go crazy and kill their fellows. They don't usually stay crazy for very long and without access to weapons they can't do much harm. Easy access to lethal weapons is the real problem.
History is being made on slashdot and I'm sure some future historian will use this material to find out how we're thinking right now. So thanks slashdot for letting me speak to my children:)
MySQL and PostgreSQL seem to be the two main backend db engines discussed here. Does anyone know if any comparisons exist between the two that cover their use (by a commercial organisation)?
IDG should check out "The Complete Idiots Guide to Publishing Books for Dummies"!
Any volunteers to help produce this site?

I would give $50 (Australian)
The GPL is our environment! Lets set up a charitable organisation (like Greenpeace) to protect it.
Note to moderator - Could slashdot set up a vote on this?
