I signed up for roadrunner a month or two ago and had the great pleasure of being billed over $350 for a single month's service.

It broke down: cable tv fees, $39.95 RR subscriber rate, PLUS "7 additional connections" each at an additional $39.95. My guess is the technical wizards they sent over to my home caught a glimpse of my LAN's nerve center in the basement and counted the number of ports on the hub... Needless to say, I didn't pay it, and when I called, they quickly realized their error and corrected it. Sheesh! Just a few words of caution, what with the story on @Home today and such.

It reminds me of the movie Salt Lake City Punk. The main character spent most of his younger ages being a "punk," that is, a thorn in the side of anyone in position of authority, as well as anyone who disagreed with his views. Him and his punk friends beat the shit out of kids from other "groups" (if you live in America you know how highschool is) that they didn't like, and in general, glorified the fact that they were different. At the end of the movie, a love interest of the main character points out to him that the way he dresses isnt "different" because he "looks like a punk." The movie ends with the main character having shaved off all his blue hair, deciding to attend Harvard Law (granted, not all of us have these kinds of opportunities, but in this movie the main character was supposedly an intelligent person) and even ended saying (paraphrase) "you can do a lot more damage to the system from the inside than you can from the outside." There comes a point in life where you realize society is the way it is for a reason, and that you can only bash your head and your fists against it for so long before you realize, hey, things _really_ aren't going to change unless YOU change the way you do things. It's highschool. Kids are stupid. Yeah it fucking sucks, but everyone goes through it, and (hopefully) everyone eventually grows up. In any event, anyone seeking some insight to teenage angst and social clique system oughtta check SLC: Punk out at your local video store... It is a fairly well done film.

  23. Re:generational differences in gut response to nuk on U.S. Had Plan To Nuke The Moon · · Score: 1

    People are stupid all over.
It doesn't really have much to do with different generations, different societal moralities, or anything else... people are just stupid.

While the show has been sucking a fair ammount of ass in the last handful of seasons, last night's episode of the X-Files featured a genie who, when justifying to Mulder why bad things always happen when people make wishes, said that "nothing has changed in over 500 years" and that "human greed" prevailed and yadda yadda yadda (ok, so I don't remember her lines in their entirety, I was really high). Made lots of sense.

The sooner that you accept that, the sooner that everything else starts making sense.

I've been accepting for years :)

[snipped segment I have no cute response for]

The quicker the stupid people stop breeding and are sent to jail, the better. Let the drug addicts out and put in the stupid people. Less harm to society as a whole...

Stupid people will never stop breeding, unfortunately. The most that can be done is modify laws requiring idiotic notices on products (such as "keep clear of moving blade" (no shit?)) so that the stupid people will die, or at least get hurt really, really bad.

Let those drug addicts out! There is no need to continue the prison facility overcrowding trend by locking up crackheads, smack fiends, tweekers, the dope sick, and most of all, stoners.

Or, grab enough money and relocate to a non-fascist nation. You can blah blah about "less commonplace" net access and whatnot, but if it _really_ means something to you, and you _are_ an American, chances are you have the ends (read money) to quantify the means.

Sure net access is expensive in Zimbabwe. But then again, your average American makes a heavy fraction of the entire country's GNP anyway.
