"...use of solar energy by the rural poor...for everything from pumping clean water from aquifers to recharging cell phone batteries.
Rural poor have cell phones? My cell phone doesn't work, and I'm not rural or poor! What they need to come up with is a solar charging cell phone that charges while you talk. Not that I get much sun anyhow.. do flourescent lights count?
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and BSD. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
Why don't you be a little more of an ass. Do you really need to point out things like that? Are you so much better than everyone else that you never make such mistakes? Do you not have anything better to do than look for errors in CmdrTaco's grammar? People like you are just urging me to stop reading/.

Although I agree with several of the points made by other posts, I believe there is also a time and place to be careful. For example, every morning I come in and see several hits to my FTP server. I use a mid-level logging so that I can see their IP/domain, User name, and the servers response. Nine times out of ten it seems to be some kind of script kiddie try to use an exploit. They're always trying to create long numbered/lettered directories, changing to/pub/incoming or/upload, etc. It takes me all of 10 seconds to write a rule to ban that network and put it in rc.local. I think it's always a good idea to stay aware of things like this...

If you're running any M$ OS at home, then by choice, you are accepting this.
My friend, I don't know who you are trying to deceive. As if there is much of a choice! Linux is a powerful, sturdy OS that has much to offer to the informed user. Would you put Linux on your mother's computer? I think not. Slashdot folk can do all the want to brag about the benefits of Linux, but the fact is that it's not ready for the home market. When you buy a Dell or Gateway PC, MS OS's are the ONLY option. Forget about Linux or (gasp) OS/2. Although several resellers do offer Linux as an option, it is not a viable alternative. Star Office cannot compare to MS Office in terms of features. There is only a small selection of games in comparison. I could go on and on, but I think I have made my point.
The simple truth is that users do not have a choice. And by forcing them to use their products Microsoft is bullying the rest of the industry.
christ, could we be a little more critical? If I have one HUGE complaint about the slashdot community, it's the fact that everyone criticizes EVERYTHING. How hard did you have to look to see that he uses an "L" rather than a one for dates?
Ideas like this always have good intentions, but rarely are they taken advantage of. Major artists will not let their music succumb to something as "low" as an open-source music industry. Smaller artists might like the free publicity, but they can hardly afford to give their music away for free. And then there are artists trying to get signed, doing self-recordings, etc.. nobody will want to listen to them! We already have many outlets such as mp3.com and farmclub.com, not to mention Napster and its relatives. What makes anyone think that the world will listen to us now? Kudos to a great idea though.

Uh, it's not a mistake.
So you think he did it that way on purpose? He makes grammar errors purposefully, just to generate a flame war? Yeah.
