Linux is a strong OS but as it has grown in popularity and usage did anybody really doubt that people would start to create viruses and other nusiances that could be intrinsically more dangerous then existing win viruses? It just goes to show that a bare install can be dangerously compromised by any amatuer and as such linux really should be run by professionals who know what they are doing.. i mean how many of you still come across people running as ROOT???

I am not too sure about this but... the FCC has rules in place that make it mandatory that each DSL company have its own equipment installed at the C/O and if you decide to switch DSL providers, they come out to your house and do yet another line test - regardless of the fact that you already have DSL. These rules were put into place to ensure that the consumers have multiple choices - or - so that mergers of DSL telco's wouldn't end up making one large DSL provider. Since ATT is already a DSL provider, it may still be necessary under FCC regulations to shut your service off, test your line and finally reinstall the same DSL service that you had. great protections for the consumer eh?

  5. The only problem i see with OS X on Linux Promises, Apple Delivers · · Score: 1

is that while opensource linux is available for a wide variety of hardware apple's OS X, while good, is not available for the PC world.

This could have been their opportunity to move into the microsoft arena - possibly even with an implementation of WINE (or something similar) for the x86 implementation. This would have been absolutely great for lots of people who like windows applications but do not like windows.

Apple sucks at hardware - they are proprietary - what else do you expect? they did a good job with os x but who cares? if you only have a couple computers to run it on - what, do i have to buy a crappy mac to run it?

naa.. i'll just install red hat.

dynamics of the console market. no company who has successfully developed and marketed a console unit has made money off of the actual console - they make their cash from the software licensing agreements for games produced to run on their systems. Xbox for instance will lose money for microsoft - but - they will make that loss back (and more.. much more) through software licensing agreements. linux may be a superior operating system in terms of power, but admit it - linux is a useful tool to corporations ONLY so that you - the developer - has a way to develop code that they will steal from you. Linux is cool for servers, but get over the idea that a 'linux console' will ever work - especially when that $300 for a console box still means a loss for any company selling/distributing one. just my two cents.
