  1. You know... on Fission in a Box · · Score: 1

At about the exact moment that all the panicing nellies got the nations (US) neuclar power program killed because of chernobil (sp?) (even tho we in this country were never stupid enough to cool our reactors with something flamable like graphite) some woman (I forget her name) had figured out a way to make a full-sized and fully fueled breeder reactor eat its own waste down to like a fist-sized result. The process was effecient enough to make it practical to take our existing waste and re-fuel a reactor with it to get rid of it.

Good thing all those smart protesters out there wisely protected us from a mature neuclar technology...

  2. After all, relativity is mathematically wrong on Excess Heat · · Score: 1

Consider the following: C is the absolute speed of light in a vacuum.
    C - C = 0 (zero).
therefore there *IS* an absolute frame of reference.

The problem remains that the "sphere" of the electron cloud is rendered oblate by te fact that individual electrons have to move with and against the absolute vector of the neucli they circle. Because this oblation *is* constant in the relative frame the idea that there is no absolute frame becomes "easy to prove". We do not have the technogolical ability to transcend our frame (as yet) so we prove there is no frame to transcend into.

The math "at the high end" (near the speed of light) is absurd so that the math at the low end looks good but still denies the absolute frame.

How much simpler than "C-C=0" does a thing have to get before you can pound it through a scientific community fraught with political bias?

    We may never know.

How then can we act surprised that something as esoteric as "cold fusion" gets sidelined without proper study? Screw science, there are people out there trying to maintian their possition in the intellegencia. If the first thing that slipped out of someones mouth was a snicker, then that someone has invested ego, and as we all know, the sole absolute principle of the scientific community is the conservation of ego.

  3. Re:when upgrading means the life of the product on When Forced "Upgrades" Bring You Down · · Score: 1

The game you describe is "EverQuest". you hve to buy monthy subscriptions *AND* they don't "Patch It" they "Extend It" and the "extensions" have to be re-licensed (paid for) *AND* if you don't the playability of your online experinece falls to hell as the environment in which you interract depends on the "ehnanced" behavior.

Particular case (Described to my by a thrid person, I have only seen EverQuest being played. I don't respond positively to telemarketers *EVER* and [so far] I have no intention to *EVER* respond to/buy "blackware" [c.f. "blackmail" lookie I just coined a term! 8-)]) in earily versions of EverQuest "monsters" would unlock locked doors to attack you. Poeople would exploit that to short-circuit quests. (make a lot of noise, the monsters open the door, you fight it now instead of spending days trying to find a key and then fighting it just inside the door)

The big-brained soultion? Fix the AI? nope, monster can now attack through solid surfaces like walls so they don't have to operate the doors you do.

people actually *PAID* for that "enhancement", without it you really just couldn't encounter monsters (the core paradigm of the game)...

Most Certianly blackware in inception and execution.

  4. Suse nt so bad for fast connections anyway... on But You Can Download It For Free, Right? · · Score: 1

Howdy, I have bought several copies of SuSE so I feel fairly justified in "abbusing them" for later "free" complete upgrades. I've never bothered with downloading the ISO images anyway, as that it a tad shotgun-ish. I just do the boot-floppy and FTP install thing....
