    If it's missing features shouldn't it still be in alpha stage? Beta is supposed to mean that it's feature complete and being tested.

    No. Not this time.
    The important bit is the server not the client and they charge for the server.
    Real does the same thing. Gives the client for free and charges for the server.

    They didn't. Real hurt themselves with all the ads and bloat they forced on the customer. They seem to have gotten better lately and are clearly not out of business.
    Netscape also did themselves in.
    I used Netscape exclusively until it because so unstable that I just couldn't stand it. They had every opportunity to have the success Firefox has and they blew it with a crappy product.

    Software compatibility. Businesses are going to still want to run much of the same software. Where I work we have several apps for our tech/cust support and for marketing that will only run on Windows or would be a huge pain to switch.

    It may well be time-limited but that is not the point. The parent to my first post said:

    My point was simply that it does not matter that they don't give out CDs. An image on a hard drive is just as good and it will still be leaked. How much the leak matters is a different point.

    My understanding is that the dev boxes they are loaning out have off the shelf main boards with a standard bios.

    Then start a company based on his work and ride it as far as it will go.

    Small semantics quibble. When an app crashes it is because that app has a bug. These web sites may exploit that bug but FF should handle that error more gracefully and not crash.

    We dealt with this issue when our son was born.
    The AMA (American Medical Association) has taken a neutral stance on the issue. They acknowledge that there is no medical reason for it. The hygiene thing was a myth. We decided to not have it done. Medical procedures with real risks of complication should only be done if necessary. It's really just a type of cosmetic surgery.
    I'm honestly surprised that the medical community feels that cosmetic surgery on infants is ethical.

    Also, companies like MS are smart enough to scour the globe for good talent. They aren't about to let other people's customs or norms keep them from hiring quality people.

    What really kicks ass about AMD's architecture is that the extra core needs very little more power. So adding more cores is much better than adding CPUs.

    The body count [in the "war" in Iraq] shouldn't be news?!? It should be in the news MORE. All we ever here is how many Americans have died as though that is all that maters. I've never heard any of the main stream news give an account of how many people have died. My other, more light hearted reply was going to be about the contrast between your "titilating expose into Britney's Spears" quote and your "Get free porn here" sig. :)

    I'm glad you asked so I can finally get my money's worth out of a philosophy class I once took.

    The name comes from the philosopher Gottfried Leibniz. He had this idea that existence was made up of these atomic building blocks of experience. They link together and form all that we know about the world around us. These Monads make up the composite of possibilities that form our "best of all possible worlds."

    That would really have sucked though. They need to give developers a lead time (a year at least) to move over.
    Your general point about missing sales is valid but I don't see any other way they could have done it. Apple backed the wrong horse in chip architecture and now it's going to cost them.

    It's an ideological shift because for years the Mac Zealots have pulled the Apple line about why the PPC is superior to x86. Now they are forced to admit that PPC was a mistake.

    Jobs is famous for his ego so I admire his willingness to own up to this instead of continuing to stubbornly push the PPC.
