However, you must remember that when the smaller the radious, less information you can record. In a CD, the fisrt 3" can carry much less data than the other 2".
I don't feel like doing the math now, I don't recall all the formulas I learned in the Analith Geometry (or whatever it's called there in US (I'm brazilian)), but I dare to say that 180MB is a reasonable amount of data that a 3" CD can save.
I've seen on Discovery channel something about these kind of flat speaker (the ones they've shown were about 1cm (1/4 inch, if i'm not mystaken) thick. They said that the sound of these flat speaker spread better trought the room. I've never seen (i mean, listened) to the sound of this kind of speaker.
But I'm not sure about buildind them in front of a monitor (as seem to be sugested in the article). The amplitude of a sound generated by a speaker is directly proportional to the amplitude of it's movement. So, if I have onde of these in front of my monitor, I wouldn't enjoy if the screen was somehow shaking.. I already have a loot of eye strees just staring at a standing screen... So I wonder if it's a good ideia to build these kind of speakers in front of the screen. Maybe put them along the boarder of the screen (even thou its already been done with ordynary speakers) or build a pair of really thin ear speakers...

You cannot compara the Human Genome and a copy of Windows 2000, just becouse they are diferent things.... Instead of that, try to compare the Human Genome whith the source of Windows 2000. That whould be a fair comparrison (IMHO), becouse than you wold compare raw data with raw data.
Now think of a CD whit 640MB of a source code, then tell me if it is more complex or not than the source of WIndows.
Im not totaly unvalidating your point, Im just saying that your comparison insn't fair. I used to be catholyc, but since I started to make more rational thouthgs (at least, I think I form rational and logical thouthgs and ideas), these 2 concepts (of church and logic) become harder to coexist...
Maybe there are something else in this hole process, something that cannot be explained by science, but for now, I'll keep whit science.
Actualy, the cathodyc (I'm not sure if I spelled it right) on your TV is FTL. The speed of the point hiting the screen is faster than light in order to draw the images fast enough to simulate the moviment to our eyes.
In the article, is said that it could be a step for incrising the longivity of life, by increasing the life duration of the cells. But as far as I know, the dead and replacement of cells is required for a healthy life. What causes eu to age, is that when the cells die and live copies of itself on its place, the copy isn`t perfect.
So we age becouse we have imperfect copies of cell, that make imperfect copies of themselves. This causes the tissue degenetation.
I believe that making cell live longer, will just make us to have more cells (since it wouldn't stop them from reproducing).
However, the discovery of making them die, can be a huge step on finding the cure of cancer, if them can 'program' the targget cells, leaving the healthy cells alive.
Common, I don't belive that nobody here knows the diference betweeen ORGANIC and ALIVE. ORGANIC are all the substances made of carbon (or with carbon on it's composition ). Your pencil is organic (all of it, not just the wood). ALIVE are organic substances that perform the life cicle: born, grow, reproduce and die. Please, don't make me stop visiting slashdot becouse of this kind of post...
