See this is what you get for trusting a secondhand provider. The major LEC's can provide the same service and probally for cheaper of a price. I know ISP's are a good thing but the LEC's are undercutting their prices. They hold the keys to DSL and they own the CO's so they charge the regular person 40 a month. They also charge the carrier who accesses their systems probally around 35 a month and they charge you 40 to 50 a month and take the 5 to 15 dollars as profit. It is a proven fact that in the dialup world you break even at around 19.95 as a small ISP. So it's no wonder that this happens.
Josh if you read into the final stipulations that were placed on AOL & Time Werner to approve the merger htey HAVE to open up their instant message system to other message programs. Look it up and you'll see it's there. I'm shure they'll behave if someone threatens to tell the FCC that they're not doing what theyre told:)
Have you noticed how once the RIAA has gotten it's way it continues to try to get concessions from anyone it can. Today I found out that a 1976 law grants the RIAA a roality of 2% for every peice of recordable media sold and devices to record on. It says the manafacturer pays the bill but it's always passed on to the consumers.
It now seems that the RIAA is doing more damage to the music users than microsoft has done to computer users. I had the vage recollection of anti-trust laws. Correct me if I'm wrong but dosent the RIAA MPAA and other groups act like a trust. Okay I'm done raving.
You must be within 18000 feet of the serving central office. Optimum speeds are within 5000 feet and after that depending on line condition the speed will slow down considerably. Note at my parents house the distance is around 12000 feet and we can get download speeds of around 3Mbit on a good day.
You see the reason we dont have those 4Mbit speeds here in the us is becuase the NSA reservs all the bandwidth to help download europe's financial information and foward it to wall street so we can make a profit.:)
