Late last year, my company bought an high-end IBM workstation (dual CPU, PCI RAID, SCSI, 2 GB RAM etc...) to be a Windoze box (what a waste...).
Guess what? It shipped to us pre-built, but with no recovery CD or Windoze media at all. IBM wouldn't even sell me one. They told me I had to go to M$ and
buy direct.
I don't geddit. Anyone know why this is? I mean, I can't believe that on a $10k machine, they'd try a save the single buck (or less) that the CD cost....
I don't necessarily doubt his intentions, just his liklihood of success.
These guys aren't really offering anything that alternic and new.net aren't/haven't offered already.
The one things that's clear, though, is that there's lots of angst about ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigning NOTHING to NOBODY) and it's stunning lack of progress.
Seems to me ICANN wants to be the UN of the internet. I always thought that once Boutros-Boutros Dyson left, things might become more sensible, but that's clearly unlikely now.
... because the trains certainly aren't.
Worth noting that the minister in charge of this stingy bunch of copyright-enforcing goons is easily found at david@campbell.minister.nsw.gov.au
Feel free to provide him valuable feedback.
