The article implies that the Athlon 3000 will not have a faster clock, but they are increasing the model number from 2800 to 3000 because of the increased cache of the Barton core. Whats up with that? When Intel added Hyperthreading with the 3.06 GHz (HT can increase performance a lot more than more cache), they didn't jack up the "model number" for that.
And you have a right to pay somebody else to do that for you also. That is what CleanFlicks and ClearPlay do. There is no redistribution- they provide a service and nothing more.
Lets try to make an analogy here (ugh). Say somebody likes cheeseburgers, but they don't like pickles. Hollywood wants to make that person keep the pickles on the burger. Your big solution for that person is to not order any cheeseburgers at all- not a very good solution if you are hungry. CleanFlicks and ClearPlay will take the pickles off for you without you even getting your hands dirty! Great- now I can eat the burger, Hollywood gets paid, and everybody should be happy!
You forgot to mention that CleanFlicks has not lost a law suit yet. CleanFlicks does not infringe on copyright because there is no copying. Seems pretty simple to me.
And their "agenda" is to let people choose how they want to watch movies. If you don't agree with them, then just continue to not use their service. Again, seems pretty simple.
Memory Stick Duo is not the two-sided memory stick- it is a completely different form factor (about 1/3 the size as regular memory sticks) targeted for different, smaller devices. They have not released a two sided memory stick yet.
If it turns out that most existing devices will not be compatible (translation: if my memory stick devices are not compatible), then I will be pissed. But the verdict is still out on that.
no other PalmOS based PDAs use them. Acer makes some PalmOS based PDA's that use Memory stick.
There are also many types of non-memory expansions you can get for those PDAs And Sony makes GPS, Bluetooth, and Camera memory stick modules.
In fact, you might be surprized at the number of devices that support memory stick (Kenwood, Pioneer, Samsung, HP, Fujitsu, NEC, Alpine, Konica, Mitsubishi, and Sharp are among the companies that make memory stick devices)
Sony has been promising gigabyte memory sticks for years, and just recently they announced that not only will it be delayed further, but in fact they won't work on ANYTHING but new devices.
Certain devices using Memory Stick cards will be compatible with Memory Stick Pro cards natively and others through an upgrade, but some older devices will not. The company will maintain a list on the Memory Stick site that says which devices will be compatible.
They don't have a list of the devices that are compatible up yet, though.
I disagree with your numbers. http://www.devsdeals.com/article.php?sid=3468 128 MB memory sticks can be found quite easily for ~$30, and that is pretty much the same price for 128 MB CompactFlash.
hard to get
What do you mean by that? They are available almost everywhere I shop online.
and only work in Sony devices.
Not true- several companies (including Samsung and Pioneer to name a few) manufacture devices that use Memory stick.
That said, my support for memory sticks has dropped a lot after Sony announced that the sticks larger than 128 MB might not be compatible with existing memory stick devices.
Good CS school programs have almost nothing to do with specific languages. You need to spend some time learning the discrete mathematics and the fundamentals of languages. When you learn that well, picking up the little quirks of a new language is easy, and you are a more versatile programmer.
I would recommend some courses in compiler design. That will give you a good understanding of grammars, languages, and programming constructs.
We need congress to uphold the rule of law. If 9 out of 10 people vote to steal the 10th person's money, it is still wrong even though it won the "popular vote". A republic guards against that by making the legislatures responsible to their constituents. Despite your cynicism I believe our congress does more good than bad.
Additionally, I would much rather elect people to take care of all of the mundane crap required to run a society. I don't have the time or patience to vote on every traffic law, building code, zoning regulation, etc.
oh, and btw, our dictator is pushing us to war, not iraq's...and if you seriously think this war won't be for oil, which is the argument implied in the attack on SUVs, you need to wake up from your fantasy worlds
A couple of points:
I think you have missed some key points in the definition of 'dictator'. Maybe this will help. Keep in mind that our government was carefully designed so that NOBODY would have 'absolute power' or be able to rule 'unconstrained by law'.
Over the past 12 years, Saddam has defied numerous international resolutions to disarm- each one with an ultimatum of the use of force. So how is our current president responsible for this again?
This war is about national security. Look how Mr Clinton screwed up North Korea for an example of how you shouldn't treat a crazy leader that has the means to research weapons of mass destruction.
Even if this was only about oil (which it isn't), fossil fuels do a lot more than power our SUV's- they are vital to sustaining and enhancing life, and they are worth defending.
It kills me that people think we need to leave such important issues of national security up to the UN Security council. France is going to stand in our way of defending ourselves? Good Lord. France doesn't even defend itself ("We surrender!").
Oh brother. How on earth is using 32 KG of water to make a chip "breeding the destruction of mother earth"? Do you actually think there is a shortage of water on this planet? So what if it uses 1.6 KG of fossil fuels- despite what the bleeding heart left says, there is no iminent shortage of fossil fuels, and there is no solid evidence of a human-induced "global warming" problem. The article doesnt even imply that these resources are consumed during the production of the chips- most of them are very reusable.
And I have news for you- SUV's are not pushing us towards war. Iraq's tyrannical dictator that is intent on terrorism and genocide is.
You are missing the whole point. Nobody thinks that Gore is delusional enough to actually believe that he invented the Internet, but his comments were so self-serving and clumsy that he deserves every bit of ridicule that he gets.
Every owner of a motor vehicle is liable and responsible for death or injury to person or property resulting from a negligent or wrongful act or omission in the operation of the motor vehicle, in the business of the owner or otherwise, by any person using or operating the same with the permission, express or implied, of the owner.
That deals with civil liability- I'm too lazy to look up how traffic violations are handled.
I just sold a car, and the first thing I did was to fill out a 'Release of Liability' form for the DMV- if I didn't fill that form out I could still be held responsible for tickets/fines/towing for my old car even though I don't own it anymore. So in most cases, it doesn't matter who is driving- the registered owner is responsible for everything.

Because the last thing we need in this country is the government telling us how and when we can send email or make a phone call.
What are the laws about that? I always thought that you had to dial 1 before a toll call, but that theory was just proven wrong when I moved last month. At my old place, calls to the new city where I now live were a local call (free), but now in the new city calling the old place I used to live is a toll call. I didn't know that until I got my phone bill.
My telco is messed up anyway- I only get 109 minutes/month of local calls (where they came up with 109 is anybody's guess), and after that I have to pay for local calls too.
Five days a week I get news during rush hour and jazz in the morning and most of the evenings, plus blues and a little more variety on the weekends.
You are forgetting the never-ending stream of annoying, worthless, tax-payer funded, left-wing drivel. The NPR propoganda machine is enough to make me want to puke.
It is security for anybody that wants to use it- including you. DRM gives software an unprecidented ability to store secrets- whether those secrets are your latest tax return or a Hollywood movie is invisible to the hardware. It can help you just as much as it can help Hollywood.
DRM will be a boon to corporate security, which is the first target market for the technology anyway. DRM systems are going to sell like crazy to corporate IT whether/. likes it or not.
Example: I just bought some software for $200 at staples. There was a $50 off $200 coupon, so I only spent $150. I have 2 rebates totaling $190. So in the 8-10 weeks when I get the rebates, I will profit $40 on my initial $150. Thats a 26% return on the money in 2.5 months, plus I get the software to boot.
