Yes, a lot of machines were built for military purposes. The foremost engineer at Bletchley Park was mr. If memory serves me, conrad zuse was an engineer who was rescued from having to go and fight in the russian front in wwII because of his engineering abilities and friends in high places. He made a programmable calculator. Which may have been used for buzz bombs guidance systems.
