  1. When people say things without having any idea... on What Bernoulli Missed About Flight · · Score: 1

    ... about what they're talking about.

    To explain why planes can fly upside-down and why this hasn't anything to do with Bernoulli's law, I must first explain this law: briefly,
    The sum of the dynamic and static pressure in a fluid is constant
    Lets take an example: assume you have a narrow pipe succeeding a large one, and water runs through them. Obviously, in the narrow pipe the water's linar speed will be higher. Therefore, it's static pressure will decrease.

    Now, why do wings generate bernoulli force?

    You must have noticed the jet planes' wings' vertical shape: it's like a round triangle, with the narrow angle ahead, the lower side horizontal, and the upper slightly upwards, something like this: /_ . Now, picture the plane running through a tube. Obviously, the upper section of the tube gets smaller as the thickness of the wing increases. On the other hand, the lower sections remains the same. So, as shown above, the static pressure on the upper side of the wing decreases, while the other remains constant. This diference in pressures generates lift. THIS IS THE BERNOULLI's lift.

    Jet planes rely mostly on this lift force. But we cant picture a jet plane flying upside-down, can we ? So, lets take a plane that can: a fighter plane. Now what's the difference between the wings of this two ? YES,you GENIUS, fighter planes have straight wings, like a sheet of paper, that dont get narrower near the end. Therefore, they dont generate Bernoulli lift! So why do they fly? well it's because the wings make a certain angle with the plane's flying direction.This presses air coming from the front under the wing generating extra pressure there, while on the upper side, the air gets scarce, generating less pressure. So, this is the lift fighter planes use. Still why do they fly upside down, as, in this position, the pitch of the wings reverses, generating pull-down force? Well, it's EASY !!! The pilot keeps the plane with its nose upwards, so that the wings get a right, positive pitch. This is all ! By the way: I've read this below: that adjustable-pitch side of the wing, called FLAPS: its pitch doesnt control the lift of the plane. It just helps the pilot lift the plane's nose, so that the wings' pitch increase, and they generate more lift.

    First of all, I dont see the connection between thermodynamics and this.. The issue was not whether we cause waves' turbulence. It was about a law that *usually* applies in physics: No energy can be generated, no energy dissappears, it only changes shapes. So, that energy we're using must come from somewhere. This was the point of this discussion, which you seem to have missed. Although you're good in thermodynamics...

  5. Question of elementary physics on Wave/Sea Power - What Are the Dangers? · · Score: 1

    Actually, the equation of the earth's orbit is as follows:

    K m1 m2 / R (thats G,morons) = m1 v / R

    (K=Newton's const. m1=moon mass m2=earth mass R=DUH! v=the linear speed of moon) Which leads to:

    K m1 m2 / R = m1 v1
    K m1 m2 / R = p

    (p is moons' impulse) So, the height of the moon is:

    R = K m1 m2 / p

    K,m1,m2 are constants - or should be huh
    Therefore R is only in relation with p. As you may know,
    p = mv
    Therefore, it has the a directory tangent to the trajectory of the moon. On the other hand, the force of interaction between the waves and the Moon (-G, that is) is a ray in the circle of the moon's trajectory, therefore it forms with p a 90 angle. Therefore,

    THE MOON'S INTERACTION WITH THE WAVES CANNOT MODIFY ITS SPEED OR TRAJECTORY

    Now, you may ask 'Right ! so where does the energy in the taides come from ? Well, from the spinning of the Earth. It's quite basic: imagine the Earth spinning with the same angular speed as the moon's around it (that is, the moon would be seen at the same location in the sky). This wouldnt generate tides, would it ? But the Earth doesnt spin that way. Now, imagine an iron ball on a moving platform. You get a magnet and close it to the ball. The ball starts rolling on the platform. The magnet is, of course, the moon and the ball is a wave. Now, because there is a roll, there is friction, and the band is pulled back (slowed). Basically, thats the same thing that happens on Earth: it is slowed (or accelerated.. who knows?) by the waves. Therefore, the second proved conclusion arises:

    THAT GUY WITH THE OIL LEAKS WAS, without knowing, MORE RIGHT THAN ALL OF YOU !!!

    Or... ? You see, in the example above I've assumed the magnet always on the same side of the ball, therefore the pullback force was constant. Now, if the magnet would circle the ball, while it's back it would generate pullback force, and while it's fwd it would generate draw force, and, naturally, they would compensate each other, giving a 0 energy change. Now, let's put sandpaper under the ball. It will increase the friction, so the ball will move less. But, as shown before, the energy will still be constant. Thats what happens when we put to use the waves' energy: with the turbines,we only increase the friction with the waves, but earth's energy will remain constant: So, for the final conclusion:

    THE MOON WONT FALL ONTO THE EARTH, THE EARTH WONT ROTATE SLOWER, WE'LL JUST HAVE SMALLER WAVES !!!

    If anyone didnt fall asleep reading this, or understood any of it, or has any comment on this, PLEASE EMAIL ME. That way, I'll know I didnt work for nothing...

    Another thing.. this theory doesnt work for the one who asked this question. By asking it, he made lots of people spend huge amounts of energy. And that energy he will have to compensate. So, enjoy life.. I'd say you life energy will wear off in approximately.. oh, dear, is't that late!? uh... God rest thy mass.

  6. Try some young minds for a change on Programmers for Scientific Research? · · Score: 1
    Your issue with CS graduates is that there are so many of them and no solid criteria for picking those that would be capable of doing the job. I'm a highschool student from an Eastern European country (Romania), and I've had some good results in the National Informatics Contest (a contest of algorithmic.. rather mathematical), and from what I've seen, the best programmers you'll ever find (I mean Applied maths, Algorithms, C, ASM, hacing, etc.) are not CS graduates (actually, that school seems to have an unique purpose of making even the best forget what they had once known), but highschool students and junior students at Maths/Informatics/CS. And you have a good criteria for picking them up: there are the Balcanic, Central European and International Olympiads in Informatics, where you can pick the best of the best. Their main asset is that you can shape them the way you want, that is harder to do with a man that for -years- has been taugh to do the same thing. The main issue is that you must invest in their future education. I dont know if you're interrested in european students for your project (should that be the case, I'm positively interrested myself - email me), but, anyways, you could use the idea of the contest (you could organize a highly-mediated contest where you can pick the man you want).

    Hope this is useful
