As the other suggested the best way to eliminate red-eyes is either having a flash that is farther from the lens or shooting the flash to the ceiling (something you can do with bigger flashes) or not using the flash entirely: with a DSLR you can go to ISO 1600 without noticeable loss of quality in most cases, so you could get a pretty sharp picture even in dim light.
