I've been trying to make a similar rig, but for the purpose of recording a dv stream though firewire in realtime. Laptops aren't really up to the task yet, and since I've got to take it on location to record the video it's got to be as portable as possible. This is what I've found so far as being the smallest full powered system:
ASUS P4T-M MicroATX motherboard:

As an option, you can get built in Ethernet, 1394, and audio.
Combine this with this 1U powersupply from PCPowerCooling:

Add a right angle AGP adapter for your GForce3 or other card:

Build your own clear acrylic case and your set.
This system would measure not much bigger than 9x9x4 or so inches, with no performance sacrifices!
