You can ask at the Post Office, and get yourself opted out of most of the bulk rate ads, the stuff that doesn't directly have your address printed on it. My mom used to work there, and she showed me the case they sort mail into, and there was one color thing they'd stick into the box when you were on a vacation stop, and a different color one if you didn't want the junk mail.

Actually, here Ameritech offers an extra feature, Privacy Manager, that costs a few bucks on top of the few bucks for caller ID with name.
Basically if the call would show Anonymous or Unavailable on caller ID, it routes it to their system, and asks the caller to record their name, and then calls you, plays their name, and asks you if you want to talk to them, or not, or play them a nasty "I don't talk to telemarketers" speil.

It's nice being able to tell who's calling before answering, either by caller id, or the preannounce. It also apparently makes predictive dialers think they hit an answering machine, so the big telemarketing places don't even make it to the point of ringing my phone.

My saturday mornings have gotten alot quieter. Instead of 1-3 calls/saturday morning trying to sell me crap, I get to sleep.

Other than that, it's alot nicer than the old 6 port AT keyboard/serial mouse only box I used before.

Although, the PROM on the SGI Visual Workstations lets you use a serial console to change settings and such. X flys on the 320's too, even though the server isn't accelerated yet. When I write things now, I have to watch as I write things, otherwise I don't get useful stuff on the paper. The really weird part is, sometimes I skip letters, and I havn't really thought about it much, but I think there's a correlation to which letters I miss... I think most of the letters I miss are ones that I would type with the other (left) hand... Now I'm gonna have to pay attention tommorow when I write something at work, and see if that theory holds up...
