Oh my, how pathetic their HTML is. (See the checker results) How can you trust a company to write clean reliable code, when they're not even able to put together a decent page of HTML?
Um... I can't even read the rules. Is that supposed to be part of the game already (wouldn't really make sense) or are they excluding Linux clients (would make great sense)? Or has it already been hacked?;o)
All that a shutter does is not show the picture for a certain amount of time. Which is good for 3D applications but won't work for that security kind of thing. All you have to do is not wear any such glasses, and you see the picture quite clearly. Probably with less flicker than someone wearing those shutterglasses.
Proprietry is indeed the _exact_ opposite of standard.
There are a number of proprietary implementations of Unix that comply with the POSIX standard.
Possible, if you mean proprietary in an area that doesn't conflict with POSIX.
But I beleive that you are confusing proprietary with non-open-source. Which are completely unrelated.
While it might be difficult to keep something proprietary in an open source project, any closed source project can certainly have either proprietary or standard interfaces.

Hate to tell you, but Longitude/Latitude *do* specify polar coordinates. You have been looking at maps for too long.;) Look at a globe. The square-problem only arises when you try do map earth's surface to a flat map. You'll have to make compromises, depending on what the map is for. E.g. road maps will usually give correct distances, but angles will be distortet. Naval maps will have distortet distances, but angles will be accurate.
If you don't like the project, get out. If you like it, stay in.
Do you really expect the SETI@Home folks to kiss *your* very personal butt, just because you contributed a few cpu cycles and were even thinking of throwing in your mighty RS6000 ?
The only shame here is on you for whining like a baby because somebody said something questionable about the Unix/Linux community.
And as to why you're so offended -- I don't see your point. They say that hacking mostly occured from Unix/Linux. I suppose we can take that as a fact. And as to why this might be so, they guess it's because of the 'hacker mentality'. Which might be wrong, but is probably even correct.
So what exactly offends you? The fact that it was mostly Unix/Linuxers trying to hack SETI@home, that SETI@home took a guess as to why that might be so or that their opininion implies that a hacker mentality is more likely to be found among a Unix/Linuxer than a Windozer? Do you actually beleive the latter statement to be false?
Did it ever occur to you that the statement might have been meant in a positive way, as in "while it's been mostly the Unix/Linux crowd, it's not because they're all criminals, but rather because of the hacking spirit"?
Um... is this meant as pure flamebait, or are you just being ignorant?
My Linux distribution came on 6 CDs, and that wasn't just all kernels...

10:45am - Reboot because the System log was full
Buahahaha... 'nuff said
Network connections down due to router failure, possibly related to thunderstorms and power failures in the area
yeah sure, thunderstorms... (well, I guess you could call it that)
Um... I can't even read the rules. Is that supposed to be part of the game already (wouldn't really make sense) or are they excluding Linux clients (would make great sense)? ;o)

I actually posted it on newsgroups several times. And my question even appeared in Ask Slashdot section. Here is the link
Did you ever get that fixed, how? (Sounds like messed up routing to me...)

Is it just me, or is $823 for the intel *more* expensive than $699 for the AMD?

I wonder if those e-mails are as represantative of all the mail they got about that test as the test itself was about the performance of NT and Linux?
They wouldn't go as far as picking just those which suit their purpose, or would they?
so, if on a CD there happen to be both open source software and a virus, and you find that virus, that shows something about the power of open source?
what has this to do with open source??

to become more stable?
Haha, good one.

I'm done.
