My BSc thesis project was a web-based RSS reader (with some bells and whistles that I dropped immediately after I got my degree), which I still use today. I'm usually not one for lofty ideologies, but even I think RSS is useful in helping the web stay decentralized (i.e. not revolve entirely around Facebook).
