The body works by balancing everything. Out bodies are constantly releasing and absorbing. When our blood sugar gets low we release one chemical, when its high we release another. Although many times we're lopsided and only using one chemical/hormone. But the balance is there to protect us from most circumstances, its our backup system, that stops us from getting into an infinite loop. Cancer is caused by cells loosing their ability to stop growing.
It's dangerous knowing that sciencetists removing a restricting gene is progress. In my mind its an ignorant move to make a headline. This breakthough is closer to cancer than anything else.
Scientists should be looking for ways to better control the balance, not pushing it until it breaks (were we don't learn anything)
I'll never put a user-base OS in place of a dedicated hardware platform. I've been in the industry, and know that it's best to trust Cisco IOS (this is not a plug, I actually worked for Lucent).
The question I would raise would be processor speed. A good Cisco 25xx has been around for ever, and I can't imagine that the processor is that fast. I know that it can't always handle it's own (a full T1 on a serial port). Maybe a dual 800Mhz PIII could. It do think it is possible to make a faster router out of a PC. I don't think it will be as a reliable though.
Both sites could have DSL and run VPN software. It would be plenty fast, seeing that both lines will be locally routed at the CO. Both sites would also have internet access.
A slightly cheaper solution is to get an untapped line from the phone company between the two sites, and attach DSL modems to that. They would then be directly connected (security and speed reasons)
There's no group better than the Pixies. Their stuff never gets old. I'd highly recommend the Pixies' children, like the Breeders. I'd even go as to say that you should listen to The Amps and Kelly Deal 6000. Or if early breeders does suit your fancy, check out Throwing Muses, and all those other Tanya Donnely bands.
Many of you are leaving out the fact that half of Ascend is the former Cascade Communications (which make AMT and FR switches). This is what Lucent wants. Forget the buggy low-end dial-in stuff. It's the core switching equipment which Lucent has customer's asking for.

Oh course, his consideration is bad from a nutrition point of view. A normal diet should have:
Fat %30 of kcalories
Saturated Fat %10 (incl in fat %)
Carbohydrate %60
Protein %10
I'd recommend ready a good nutrition book, which will explain why most protein diets are spoofs.
BGP is way too complex too use.
DSL, if available, might be a good option.
