I purchased new construction and laid in some conduit while it was under construction. I ended up using only 50ft of 3" PVC conduit which is cheap as dirt - one piece runs up from the basement/LAN closet straight into the attic so I can easily run additional cable to the second floor; the other runs through the ceiling of the basement and ends behins the AV centre to take all the speaker cable, coax and ethernet for the entertainment area.
The conduit comes in handy later...trust me!
