  1. Is Trippi right? on Ask Libertarian Presidential Candidate Michael Badnarik · · Score: 2, Insightful

A recent Wired cover story said "A typical person might be a fiscally conservative, socially liberal, free marketeer. That doesn't line up with either party". It sounds to me that the 'typical person' has libertarian tendancies. What is the Libertarian Party in general, and your campaign specifically, doing to tap the un-represented masses? What has Howard Dean's success, both in popularity and in fundraising, shown the potential internet has in undercutting "politics as usual"?

  2. Re:Lets hope it backfires on BSA Asks Kids to Name Copyright Weasel · · Score: 1

I like how the Slashdot summary says "weasel" while the actual article says "ferret." That's quite a stretch on the submitter's part to make their mascot look bad.

Wait... are you suggesting that Slashdot stories are [gasp] biased?

  3. Re:Just say no... on BSA Asks Kids to Name Copyright Weasel · · Score: 1

Programs like Just say No and it's successor, DARE, fail because they rely on blatent misinformation that even kids can see through. If the BSA takes the same route, they'll get the same results. Althought it may be flamebait to say it, there is value to copyright law (encouraging artists and innovators, etc). If the BSA's weasel teaches kids the social and economic value of copywrite instead of telling them that the feds will come and cut off their hand if they download music, they may be successful.

That said, I doubt the BSA will catch on to the ability of kids to see through raw brainwashing.

I suspect that everytime someone will try to pass a bill allowing settlements, they will find a reason that more study is needed.

Would there even need to be a law allowing settlements? If Joe Bazzillionaire decides to retire to Mars, is it really going to be worth the tax bill to fly out there and bring him back?

  5. Blogs and Google on The Rise Of Reg-Only Media · · Score: 1

What the big media sites should be worried about is the influence of blogs on Google ratings. If people are put out by having to register for sites like NYTimes, bloggers will link to open access sites. This will cause a drop in NYTimes' Google score, and that'll cost them advertising money.

  6. Re:Fossil Fuels. on Global Warming: Do You Believe? · · Score: 1

It's ironic that all that's changed with this "crisis" since the 70s is that the theory has gotten one step more complicated. Before, the problem was that the pollution was blocking out the sun, making it cold. Now, the pollution is letting the sun in, but blocking the heat from escaping. By Occom's Mallet, the more complicated solution must be the most scientific, therefore, global warming over ice age.
