yes you can get a job. paying minimum wage, as determined by corporations, who change the laws to make sure you have no real power in your country, but they do
why are filled with so much hate for your own fellow americans and so willing to absolve of all sin entities which only exist to acquire more and more profit, at any cost, including your impoverishment and the destruction and weakening of your country and the government which is supposed to represent your interests (corporate cash makes sure it isn't)? the enemy is welfare recipients? ok, then please, go after the corporate welfare recipients, you idiot
you are filled with so much hate for the poor, that you are willing to ignore the powers that impoverish you. go ahead and hate the poor, you will soon be right next to them, as you completely disregard and allow corporations and the rich to remove any sense of fairness and equity in your own country
when you weaken the government, there is a power vacuum. it is filled by corporations. who are not accountable to the people, like your government is. well, it is supposed to be, in theory, but again, corporate money makes sure it is accountable to corporations instead. so what do you do? you HEAL a sick government, you don't fall for CORPORATION SPONSORED PROPAGANDA like faux news, and WEAKEN the government, thereby subjecting you to FAR MORE abuse at the hands of UNACCOUNTABLE corporations
there is really something wrong with this country: so many fools so eager to believe that the institution formed to represent them is the enemy, and the institutions formed to acquire cash, at whatever cost, including infecting and weakening their government and encroaching on your rights, are innocent and without the capacity to harm
how can so many be so gullible and so easily fooled?
Trust is a matter of degrees. The Tuskegee incident is so horrendous because its such a blatant defilement of trust. Its also historical and one of millions of programs. As long as the govt has a mechanism for accountability, the us gov't is far more trustworthy than almost any other entity you can think of
well, if in your mind I merit comparison to the late great Stephen Jay Gould in the content of my thoughts, I am nothing but flattered, thank you! I'm not being facetious
religion tells us how to live life as human beings, science tells us how we live as biological creatures
the two domains don't touch. science has no right to answer transcendental questions, and no ability to do so. religion has no right to answer mechanical questions, and no ability to do so. to not recognize these boundaries mean you have failed to properly judge the subject matter and the proper point of view
so, from a religious perspective, if you start finding yourself in the domain of science answering questions religiously, you have spiritually failed
likewise, if, from a scientific perspective, if you find yourself in the domain of religion answering questions scientifically, you have intellectually failed
a great quote. from shakespeare. a significant luminary light in the prodigious cultural output of England. and someone who would not be so insecure and hot tempered about a simple harmless assertion of a culture from the distant seas
there is something wrong with someone who feels a hostile need to put other cultures "in their places." it speaks of your own personal insecurities, and doesn't reflect well on your cultural identity, to be a product of that culture which such a big chip on your shoulder
so say what you want about the philippines and it's culture, if such denigration makes you feel better. i don't think filipinos will be upset. filipinos tend to be pretty relaxed and secure in their cultural identity. something you obviously need. something your culture failed to instill in you. i'm sorry, but you're not a very good reflection on your upbringing
ok, i understand, you're not a trustafarian and you don't live in a shack. but maybe you should consider that not everyone can do what you did, and therefore your experience is an outlier, and not an instructive lesson on what everyone should do or depend on or expect
you are either a trustafarian or you live in a shack
of course there has to be an economic consideration for what major you choose, for everyone else in the world. somebody has to put food on the table and pay for the roof over your head. in your case, i guess you don't have to worry about that. nice to be you. but your thoughts have no value to the vast majority of us
"socialism" is always bandied about as a dirty word. i think mainly because people don't understand the opposite word: "classism," which is worse: you go as far in life as how much money your parents have
the truth is that no society can be a great society if it doesn't provide some sort of social safety nets. and no society is a meritocracy if it is willing to deny opportunity to people who are gifted, but aren't financially gifted
for those of you who have this knee jerk automatic reaction to the word "socialism": why aren't you worried about classism? don't you see the evils in that? don't you see that a truly great society DOES have social safety nets and why they are needed? where do these automatic trigger reactions in your brain come from without an appreciation of simple facts and obvious history?
But the main thing Spain gave to the Philippines was Catholicism, and with it, tens of thousands of newly-christened Marias and Joses. With the Americans came names like Butch, Buffy and Junior - and the propensity to shorten everything if at all possible. Perhaps it is the combination of these two influences which has led to names like Jejomar - short for Jesus Joseph Mary. The current vice president is called Jejomar Binay. Even the large Chinese community here has not escaped this national name game. Their surnames are often a form of Anglicised Chinese, but sometimes the Philippine penchant for fun shines through. I have heard of a Van Go, a John F Kenneth Dee and an Ivan Ho. But there are some names that just defy explanation. Why would you call your children after the days of the week or your favourite desserts? To many Filipinos, a better question to ask is: "Why wouldn't you?" I have been living here for a while now, and I have got used to all these names. When I'm introduced to a Dinky or a Dunce, or read about people called Bing and Bong, it seems almost normal. In fact, if anything, I rather like the fact that Filipinos are self-assured enough to use these names, no matter how odd they sound or how senior the person's public role. But my assimilation is not quite complete. While I think it is great that BumBum can wear her name badge with pride, I'm not quite ready to adopt a Philippine nickname myself just yet.
my favorite is the very influential previous archbishop of the Philippines: Cardinal Sin
His title and surname as Cardinal Sin (another term for a deadly sin) were the source of many jokes in the Philippines and the Philippine Catholic community, such as "The greatest sin of all...Cardinal Sin", and his own pun: "Welcome to the house of Sin" referring to his official residence, Villa San Miguel.
there is an ugly, unfair, and grotesque association between southeast asia and sex workers

you are indulging in crudeness as if it were harmless. don't lightly transgress against insults to universal human dignity, it will earn you nothing but grief
I actually find that the gender neutral nature of the Visayan and Tagalog languages to be a mark of cultural superiority.
Basically, there is no differentiation between male and female in the language. Filipinos are always saying "his" or "he" when they mean to say "hers" or "she". So this is a language bias towards equality of the sexes, which carries over to being developmentally predisposed towards equal treatment between the sexes. It's a superior language construct. Unlike, for example, Japanese, which has entire verb classes dedicated to the deference of women and underlings to the male/ boss. English is not the worst offender on this topic.
conservatives are always crying hypocrisy towards the left when "hypocritical" intolerance (of their intolerance) is "exposed." except that intolerance of intolerance is not the same as plain old intolerance, logically and morally

you've successfully wrote a comment that makes ignorant creationists look better in comparison
One of the two morons actually implied classism is caused by socialism. Its amazing how screwed up people can be, completely brainwashed and clueless
Its a very simple point: economic considerations trump love of wisdom for wisdom's sake for most of us. And not by choice

in short, to people with Anglophile backgrounds, Filipino names are just plain wacky:

no, it is when racism is defied
"i fight black people"
racism, intolerance, bigotry
"i fight you, because you fight black people"
not racism, not intolerance, not hypocrisy
conservatives are always crying hypocrisy towards the left when "hypocritical" intolerance (of their intolerance) is "exposed." except that intolerance of intolerance is not the same as plain old intolerance, logically and morally
LOL exactly ;-)

negative X negative = positive
