I think a lot of people mistake the idea of a "demension" as either another location, as popularized in science fiction, or as this other direction which can't be seen. The problem is that there is no "the 4th demension", it's simply how you define it. You could see time as a fourth demension, or you could see any other "property" of an object that has a value as a demension. Like alphabetic rank or color: e.g. think of, in a collision routine, that the two objects to collide must be, both in the same place at the same time, yet also the same color. But there is no "the 4th demension" just as there is no "the 5th trait" of any object, it's simply a matter of how you look at it, that's all.
At least that's how I understand it.
