I should point out that they did first pass samples by people who listen to music for a living, so called "golden ears," who couldn't detect it either. Apparently the main defense is take out tiny portions of the music. Small enough that CD player error correction will accomodate, but a direct data transfer will turn into bursts of gibberish.

While at the same time comprimising the error correction of the CD. They should have the golden ears listen to scratched discs.
