  2. Try Quasar on What is the Best Way to Start a Paid GPL Project? · · Score: 1

Quasar at http://www.linuxcanada.com/ does exactly what you want and I believe is or has been converted to GPL and is open source now.

A wonderful accounting package but also includes addons for POS and possibly some others.

  3. Missing the Point on Home Theatre PC Guide · · Score: 4, Interesting
I think some people don't see the bigger picture behind a PC based home theater. It is not like just plugging a tuner card into your PC and using the software that comes with the card to watch it.

With PC Theatre software, the program manages your recordings, schedule of records and ties into other medias such as videos, mp3 and CD collections and even digital cameras.

Also, when you have a PC based home theatre you usually have the output running through a highend sound system and large screen TV or project, not your 17" monitor and $12 speakers.

Beleive me, once you start using a properly configured PC based TV system, your methods of watching TV completely change.

  4. RDesktop on An X-Client Wrapper for Microsoft Windows? · · Score: 1

There is a quick and dirty solution to this and I use it all the time.

It is an RDP client that will connect to a Terminal Server and give you an windows desktop. You just need to type this from the command line.

    rdesktop -s app.exe myserver.com

You can get rdesktop from http://www.rdesktop.org.

One of the best Windows/Linux Open Source utilities out there.

  5. Handbook of Programming Languages on Computer Books For A Library? · · Score: 1

I would definitly include the 3 book set of "Handbook of Programming Languages". It breaks languages down into the 3 books and includes everything from C++, Pascal, awk, Python, Perl, Cobol, Fortran and Basic. They are well written and an excellent reference. They aren't meant to make you a guru by no means, but do show you how the language works with excellent examples. The set is also actually very cheap for the style of book it is. I have also only ever seen it in hard cover so it will probably get a little more respect in a library and can take more abuse. The author is Peter H. Salus and it is distributed by Macmillan-Technical Publishing Joe MacDonald jamacdon@hwy97.com
