can't you just change the port # your web server is running on? That sux but it would be better than nothing
Sure, you could change the port, but try telling your mother-in-law, that when she wants to look at the recent pictures of her grandson, to connect to port 8080. She'd say something along the lines of.. 'WHAT'S THAT NOW?' 'COME AGAIN?' And going back and getting links changed around the net to include the:8080..

Broadband Crackdown
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
It comes down to.. The people that know how to use their computers gt fucked over by those who don't.
add the word AGAIN to that phrase. And if we want to get on a network where we are our peers know what they are doing, we have to pay out the ass. I liked it better when it took some BRAINS to use a computer, it wasn't cool to be a geek, and everyone I know isn't calling me every 10 minutes to fix their damn computer.
I'm on @home and as far as I can tell port 80 is not yet blocked... I wonder for how long they will block the port and what clause in their contract they will hide behind?
I know of at least one broadband provider that is completely shutting off access to machines known to be infected.. and not allowing them back on untill they patch up. (well i imagine they must let them on to at least downlaod the patch). If @home blocks my port 80 i'll be quite pissed. Yes I'm lame, I'm running IIS (patched) on my cable modem.
I as well am really impressed with the speed.. running a speed check from bandwidthspeedtest.com on netscape 4.7 reports 165KB/s - IE 230KB/s Mozilla - 865KB/s Gotta love no overhead.
Lets say I'm a musician. I have 2 CD's out. I want to make copies of them for myself and others because the originals were really expensive to get printed and I want to save them to sell at my shows. I cant believe that I'm assumed guilty because I bought blank CDs.
'm digressing, but the point is, a sysadmin job usually requires that you help fellow employees, and that is something to check for in an interview.
No, that's a help desk monkey, or a jr. sysadmin. A sysadmin keeps the infrastructure servers and/or the production servers running.
That all depends on the size of the company/it department
Maybe you havent been paying attention.. but those days are gone as well.. Napster is incorporating technology that actually looks at the digital data of the mp3 file to check what song it is. I've given up on caring about Napster. It was great before everyone and their grandfather knew about it. Back when us people with a little computer knowledge were the only ones with mp3's and burning CD's to listen in our car. I'll be glad to see napster go, And I really hope that nobody uses the napster service when they come back online. Why? because they were making money off of illegal trade. Now hang on, I'm all for illegal trading, but once someone starts making money doing it, then that sucks for everyone involved, except of course the people making the illegal money.
We use IP phones in the office, and they are great for our application, since we can move the phone anywhere in our buildings, and still have the same extension. We've even made them work via VPN so the CEO and some others (ahem) can have an office extension, and long distance calling on the compnay bill at home. Bandwidth? according to Cisco the phones we use only require ~100k/s to operate, so that falls within the means of most people's capped 128k cable lines.. but of course they are connected to a server here in the office, that is then connected to the phone company. What is going to make a difference here as to who is going to be using these devices at home is WHO is running the server to patch into telco lines and how much are they going to charge? are they going to allow free calling within the network? (that would be cool, seeing as just about everyone I know has made the exodus to southern california)
The problem is that many people WILL pay for content.. Majority rules in most circumstances and in most, like this one, the people who are willing to stand up and have their voice heard are the minority. Remember the days of the BBS? The only thing you ever dreamed of paying for was maybe a long distance call. Those were the days when we were the majority. Now with this internet thing, people are just emptying their wallets because they think that they have to.
Smith and Barber from WPLR 99.1FM Will be discussing this case live on air with Attorney Irv Pinskey.. you can stream the broadcast The interview is planned for 8:50am
MY experience with digital speedometers is that they suck. I was driving a pontiac grand am with a digital dash when I was going to school at the University of Utah.. We were driving out to Wendover, Nevada. If anyone knows the route from A to B , its right across the salt flats - 80 miles of perfectly straight, perfectly flat road. Speed limit - 65.. I was going 85 (so the speedmeter said) thinking hell, 85 on this road a cop wouldnt even flinch... (did i mention there is no traffic and only 2 or 3 exits) Well next think I know there is a cop in a mustang 5.0 pulling a movie-style U-turn across the salt.. Pulls me over.. Procedes with the 'Do you know how fast you were going?' knowing that its important to be honest with the cops, I told him I was indeed going 85mph. He said.. 'Hmm.. come with me' and brings me to the cruiser to write my ticket. Shows me the radar unit... 113mph DAMN! I start shaking in my shoes, cuz here in Connecticut where I am from and live now, They just take out their gun and shoot you on site for speeds like that. The good part is that the ticket was only $55
I just heard about this on the Radio and was about to post about the ruling, but looks like I got beaten by about 4 hrs well here is the link to all the Connecticut Statutes
Well, as broadband truly is in its relative infancy, We will have to find which method works the best. Quite possibly, in 5-10 years we will have picked the one that is the best and weeded out the others.
...is that it is not cluttered with ads like the other search engines, and the search results are not biased by who is writing them checks. Hopefully this will say this way.
Besides if this is about "stopping piracy", why aren't the obvious alt.binaries.warez.* groups there? They were generic enough to include.movies and.divx.
Thats because they stopped carrying.warez.* groups a long time ago. Its too bad too cuz when downloading from the news server on @home I get between 4-9 meg transfer speeds...
You can use any news server you want, but you'll have to pay or find a free server the nice thing about using @home's news server is that A> You are already paying for it in your monthly bill and B> its located nice and close so the speed is nice...
Never had trouble setting magnesium on fire....

it does not effect the ACTUAL speed.. but the speed that things show up on your screen vary by how much other BS is going on in the background....

Napster's dead. Let it go.
