Oh, and the company was a start up. Working in a basement and all. At least there was a pool table.
NDAs and startups... inevitable?

The Cult of the NDA

The company I interned for over the summer had everyone under NDA: Our subject experts, recruiters, even us low level interns doing the real work. Our NDA was more for the fact that any of us interns couldnt run out and do the same thing, not that i'd want to. While It seemed like nothing at the time, even telling people what i did over the summer becomes a process of "umm, well, i can tell you that i programmed..." and them not understanding. But it was fun, and i wrote mountains of PHP that are being shown at trade shows.
Oh man, you wouldnt believe the number of people who have showed up at our Tech services door saying "my dad set this up, but you guys turned it off, and i dont know how it works"
Its the myth of the computer generation. Using AIM and KaZaA isnt computer knowledge...
As a tech at a small-ish college, we have been shutting floors of dorms down and then bringing them up one PC at a time. If they start transmitting worm traffic, they get shut down and have to come get a CD of patches to fix their system. Once they are clean, they call us up and get turned back on. It took us about 3 days to really quell the surge, and had our entire network down for hours at a time. It also makes the phone ring about every 10 seconds. Hearing that ring for the length of an 8 hour day, that will drive somebody crazy. All in all, however, it has worked, as most of the machines are back online and worm free. It really sucked for about 5 days though... "hi, my internet isnt working"... "hi, my internet isnt working"... "hi, my internet isnt working"...
After the floppy died in my last computer (~2 years ago) I never bothered to buy a new one. Once in a while I thought that I might need one, but figured a quick way around it. Also saves from having to make bootdisks for idiots on my floor that use win98 and like to toy with the registry...
Id pay if i could... hell, id pay twice what the people in town pay, if i could. the fact is, time/warner cable in our area sucks... good thing im only at home a month or 2 a year... Sitting on a phat pipe at my small school (3k students for a t3.. mmm me like that ratio) isnt nearly so bad:p
