  1. Whats really going on on Wiretapping, The Year in Review · · Score: 1

Lets face it, we have no idea what is really going on. The could be listening to us in many different ways without us knowing it. Lets imagine for a moment that the wiretaps are X, and govco (Government) wants us to think that the actual wiretaps are x/n (n>1). They ask the court for x/n wiretaps and do teh rest anyway. Who's to know the difference? Even if/where there are monitors who monitors the monitors? The point of all this? Presume your being listened to.

  2. Contact IP Lawyers in your area on Searching for Pro-Napster Experts and Speakers? · · Score: 1

I would contact IP (Intellectual Property) lawyers in your area. Be sure not to confuse them with PI lawyers.

I know of at least one IP lawyer who is pro Napster, so they *do* exist, and they can talk on the legal issues as well as the moral issues.

  3. Another way to put it on MS VP Speech Online · · Score: 1

I put it another way. I tell my boss that he can choose to use Windows, and I can choose to get another job. When he asks why I then start to explain that I refuse to work with Windows because of their security, performance, and support. I explain that outside of managing Windows desktops (which I don't do) I can do anything in UNIX better then he can get it done in Windows, and prepare to back up my claims.

As for MS press goes, I simply explain that MS has lost my trust and that I no longer trust anything they say.

  4. Normal job for once on How Many Hours Do You Work in a Week? · · Score: 1

I'm on a normal job for once. I do 40-45 hour weeks, with 24x7 on call all the time, though as a systems manager I've had one call in the two months I've been here (make that as a *good* systems manager :). I refuse to work for people who plan on me doing 70-90 hour weeks, so the only times I have to do that is when I screw up.

  5. This is the whole point! on Can Open Source Escape The Apple Horizon? · · Score: 2

The point of the BSD license is that people *can* do this. This is why I use the BSD license for my own code that I have released. 1. I would rather someone use my code if it does what they want rather then have to do it all over again. 2. Someone using my code and not offering anything back doesn't hurt me, or other users of my code than if they had not used my code at all. Now, imagine if you will a world without BSD Sockets being available under the BSD license. Do you think everyone would have opened up their source code so they can use it? No, everyone would have written their own, and *that* would have been a mess. Software is different than money, farms, or a potato. A piece of software is not a limited resource. If you use my source code, you do not prevent me from using it. I think the animals should stay on the farm :)
