chances are they know everything about us already and are just preventing us from reaching them.

Is there life on mars? I dont think our government knows for sure and the reason they want to wait 20 years for a manned mission is because if there IS life on mars i dont think they'd want a manned crew to see it.
Heres what i think, i think after the so called rock with life in it from mars, and the water markings on mars and all of the clues and hints that life on mars is possible, our government is playing it safe.

When you go to school and get graded your grades show how well you know how to pass tests, how well you take notes, how you well you get along with and obey the teacher, and the rest is homework and how disaplined you are.
I got bad grades in school, but I'm as intelligent or moreso than most people i meet who got all As.
The reason people get all As is because they work hard
I lacked motivation to get good grades so i didnt.
While helping people with learning disability is good, how many people with learning disabilities are there? not many.
Its better to help a very large number of people, the best way to help them is to build software, the best software to build is software to empower them.
Build software for people who cannot afford to buy it, and use the GNU license, teach people step by step how you write each program and walk them through the code so they learn how to write what you give them.
Knowledge is power, more programmers = good.

The problem is, people dont get hired on skills but on experience, I have skills that match any one of you people here, but as far as experience, only 1 year experience with no degree, the best job i could even attempt to go for is system administration and those jobs arent the best paying jobs.
The point of unions is to allow EVERYONE to work up the ladder, people who were in on the ground floor of the computer revolution hate this, but its not fair for them to be at the top and no one else be able to ever make it to their level.
Its going to take me 4-5 years of working to get up to the level alot of slashdotters making 6 figures are at now, and the thing is by the time i get to this level they will be 4-5 years ahead of me still making 6 figures and ill only be making slightly more than before.

Not just that but some companies i hear are setting up clauses which keep you from working for other companies for a set amount of time if you leave.
So if you quit you cant go anywhere else for 6 months.

What about people like me who are just getting into the industry.
Guess what, we outnumber you, most people didnt have computers 5 years ago when you guys started working in the IT field, and when you guys were in college people were still most likely using windows 3.1 or windows 95,
Considering most people make more around 30-60k a year, not half a million a year, we have to look at what the average IT professional makes, not what the senior level employee with 5-10 years experience and a degree makes.
Unions help the people. Sure if i were making 6 figures i'd be against the union but as things are now, I dont have alot of experience, its hard to find jobs, I dont make close to 6 figures, unions would benifit me alot.

Most people arent making 6 figures, I dont care if the tech industry allows a select few to make 6 figures, MOST arent and wont be making this much money, and a union helps the majority.
This is like a democrat vs republican thing, if you have a high salary helping other people hurts you, but the majority of the people overrule you, so a uninion is better.
But if i were making 6 figures like you i wouldnt want a uniion either my point is just most people can benifit so a uninion is best for the people.

IT workers work what seems like 24 hours a day and they dont get paid extra for this.
They often work 14 hour days, and sometimes on the weekends.

Games are made for MAC OS natively, why? why do developers bother when you can use virtual windows?
Why do people make software for MAC Os when you can use windows software on Mac?
One reason, USERBASE, Mac has millions of users and Mac users actually have better buy ratios than windows users, meaning the MAC market is more valueable but the wnidows market is bigger.
Linux users are loyal like Mac users meaning they will buy more software than windows users, When XP comes out, this will be the time for users to jump ship from windows to Linux, the window of oppurtunity, and if people find out their games dont work, it will close the window.
What you have to understand is, people have to be able to play the games they already have and use the software they already have.
New games should not be emulated, and really, its not a big deal because the people who support transgaming already HAVE the windows versions of these games, Transgaming is trying to keep us frmo having to buy 2 versions of the same game.
Porting will not happen until the userbase is big enough to be profitable for developers. Having emulation does not make a diffrence. When developers can truely port games when linux is popular enough, games for linux will be released at the same time as windows versions.
Not to mention if companies port to mac, porting to linux will take alot less time than emulation.
