Even allowing for an extra 100 pack of DVDs to make up the difference, DVD-Rs are still half the cost/GB of hard drives.
If you want convenient access to your DVD-Rs, you'll want individual cases. These cost slightly more than the disks. Then you'll need a storage shelf and maybe some labels. Add these costs and DVDs and hards disks are roughly equal.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods. Method 1 Upgrade to Windows Vista from an earlier, supported version of Windows that is already installed on the computer. Method 2 Purchase a license that lets you perform a clean installation of Windows Vista.
Earthlink's news servers did have a 1.5 GB per 30 days limit before throttling the down to modem-speed, but they recently raised the limit to 5 GB. In each case, the limit is per email address, and typical accounts get 8 email addresses. They outsourced the throttling to India and the usage recording was broken for a couple weeks this month.
do real astronomers call it the 'dark side,'...
Of course they don't. That would be foolish and un-"real astronomer"-like.
They don't call it the dark side because it isn't always dark. Half of the moon is always illuminated by the sun (except during lunar eclipses), so the far side is only dark when the moon is full. An observatory on the far side would see a day/night cycle, but lasting about a month instead of 24 hours.
Vernor Vinge predicted birds starting fires in Marooned in Realtime.
There is precedent. Colin Baker played Commander Maxil in Arc of Infinity a year before becoming the 6th Doctor.
I also don't know where you got the idea that the VS plugin works only with paid versions. It works fine with the LGPL plugin for me.
It's a paid version of Visual Studio that is needed. The plugin refuses to install if you only have the free VS Express.
Absolutely not true.
1.5 TB hard drive - $130
300x 4.7 GB DVD-Rs - $54

> 6) Replace MS MediaPlayer with Media Player Classic.
I liked Media Player Classic, but it has security vulnerabilities and is no longer maintained. See http://secunia.com/advisories/26806

Get the plugins as well as the program.
The 30 second pauses you saw could be your PC looking for a DHCP server and not finding one. See http://www.dslreports.com/faq/faq#156 for a fix.
