It seems like a lot of people on/. are trying to find a way around the fact that they're stealing.
It makes no difference how much money anyone makes off of selling CDs. Doesn't anyone believe in private property anymore? If I steal 1 dollar from you today, and pay you 2 dollars tomorrow, I still robbed you.
Let me put it in another way most people around here can understand. Let's say I made some changes to Linux, and sell X copies of my new version without giving out the source code. If I install X+1 copies of another version WITH the source code, can I claim that I helped the Linux community?
Why is intellectual property silly? Ideas are becoming much more important than physical property. I'd rather lose a house after a few years than lose the rights to my ideas. Any creative person would feel the same way.
And if copyright ran out after 3 years, the GPL would be completely useless.
Cares with 100mpg have been built but the patents have been bought by the big three and locked away.

All this bitching about "losing our first amendment rights" is ridiculous.
If somebody bought all of my guns, would they be depriving me of my 2nd Amendment rights?
If somebody bet me $5 dollars that I could go a whole day w/o speaking, is that depriving me of free speech?
If you don't like their terms, don't buy their product. Duh.
Look on page 39 of the NASA document. This is actually a plan for Dr. Evil to move the Earth out of orbit.
