Amusing that anyone would think months worth of meetings are ever productive. We meet. We produce a thick document that is largely lies. How productive.
Vested interest? Yup. I have a vested interest in my stock options, in my job, in wanting to produce good quality software, in not wanting to sit in long, boring, unproductive meetings for 3-6 months while an analysis and/or design document is being produced. What a crock. Some of us believe that XP has a better chance of succeeding than the status quo (if you actually take the minimal time to figure out how it really works and why).
At least it's not there to sell you $10,000 development seats for bloated, painful tools. Don't buy a book, either -- there are gobs of web sites with accurate information (e.g. http://www.xprogramming.com).
