yep, you are right. My only argument is that I, and others like me , believe that the definition of intelligence has been wrongly redefined by a lot of A.I experts so as to make their own work seem more credible. Originally A.I was a goal to achieve a "thinking machine", one that didn't require outside input (a previous but seemingly lost definition of intelligence), but as far as strictly defined by academia today, yes, you're absolutely correct, a.i. is just solving problems. Why we don't just call it that, well, I can't say it's beyond me - obviously NASA and id software know that A.I sounds a lot cooler than "Computer generated opponents can solve problems!" or "New spacecraft computers can examine data to solve problems!"
I wish people would stop referring to semi-dynamic code as "artificial intelligence" Anyone who knows the definition of A.I. knows that environmental modifiers that cue preset responses don't qualify as intelligence. Dave would've passed the Turing test, I think.
Unfortunately, it was deemed to conflict with the greater interest of the Chinese Government.
On a serious note, if AOL really wants to succeed in China, they will make the installation software cost about $89.98. It will be on every computer in China in less than 10 minutes.
