The FF extension called "Spoofstick" is also vulnerable. Spoofstick is supposed to protect web users from this kind of issue. I have notified the company that provides the extension, so hopefully they will be able to fix their extension and show the correct URL.
While it's not an end-all-be-all solution, this extension is very useful in preventing my mom from going to spoofed web sites.
