When a trademark becomes the common useage for the product than the company can have a very hard time enforcing their trademark. This is the partially the reason that when you ask a coke at a resturant they are require to say that they have pepsi, and ask if that would be ok. Coke threatens companies that do not do this because it puts their trademark at risk.
