Adobe has a licensing program that requires a school to purchase 1 "full" copy of a program at retail, but then get addl licenses for a fraction of the cost -- around $200 a pop. That's helped my department acquire legal licenses of Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, and Premeire. Can you tell are teachers are wannabe artists? =)
The school that I work in is very strict on software licensing -- We feel that it is our duty to be a role-model and set a good example for our students.
However, I should note that some companies (namely, Microsoft) have special school licensing programs that not only offer a discount on mainstream programs, but include a "due to the needs of educators, school faculty and administrators are free to install copies on their home machine". I think that's really cool. Someone is thinking out there...
