What you are asking is that we halt and stop all software development and contine to run Linux 1.0 for the rest of our lifes without adding features and improving. Faster computers mean that we can increase the abbstraction layers between the hardware and the application to make it EASIER and FASTER to develop complex applications.
uhh? GSN's speed (aka HIPPI-2) is 6.4 gigabytes/s, not 800 mb/s, thats the speed of the old HIPPI.

Cant this be implemented in hardware? maybe full-custom or semi-custom CMOS ASIC's would be possible, but its very expensive ofcouse.
